71: Chapter 12 Buying Books Eating Meat_1 71: Chapter 12 Buying Books Eating Meat_1 This is a bookstore that although located at the inner-most part of the market, had the highest flow of people coming in and out.
Upon stepping inside, one can see the whole shop was about the size of two classrooms.
The most noticeable items near the entrance were popular publications, from fiction novels and magazines to study materials.
All three rows were filled with people.
However, Yan Fei wasn’t interested in popular books.
Instead, his attention was drawn to the specialized books placed on shelves against the side walls.
Staring at a shelf labelled “Breeding Techniques”, Yan Fei began his treasure hunt.
“Prevention and treatment of Large Livestock Diseases”, “Breeding Meat Pigeons and Domestic Rabbits”, “How to Rapidly Fatten up Pigs”, “Unusual Breeding”, “How to Get Rich Fast Through Breeding”, and even books that target specific diseases were readily available.
One could find a book about absolutely anything.
However, Yan Fei was currently not concerned with that much detail.
He planned to buy each book after he gets some more money.
He must save his money for now.
After
After stewing, it was incredibly fragrant.
Looking at the rolling hot meat in the pot and the pile of raw meat on the chopping board next to it, Yan Fei was troubled.
The cooked meat could be stored, but not the raw ones.
The temperature on the island was high, so the meat would spoil quickly if not used.
Moreover, this meat spoiled much faster than regular pork, beef, or lamb.
He once left Compsognathus meat out overnight without cooking it promptly and had to throw it away because it wasn’t fresh anymore.
He made a tough decision.
Transforming into a Pterosaur, he stood there and swallowed all the meat.
Anyway, he could get as much meat as he wanted in the future, as long as it wasn’t wasted.
Besides, he had previously eaten raw meat as a Pterosaur, and although he wasn’t sure if it had any benefits, it certainly had no harm.
When there was only a small amount of meat left, he saved some, cut it into thin strips, and transformed into a small crocodile to swallow it.
He had high hopes for the growth of this little crocodile!
If it stays this small, it can only swim in the small stream in Sancha River town.
It dared not enter the waters of the dinosaur world.
Perhaps only the small Spring Pool on Vegetable Garden Island would be a suitable habitat for such a small crocodile.
Looking at the time, school was over.
Exiting the island and opening the front door, sure enough, the students were already on the streets after school.
He locked the door and headed back towards the Cow Breeding Island, which was his ‘home after school’.
At the Cow Breeding Island, Yan Fei had dinner with his grandfather as a part of their routine.
His grandpa actually believed that he went to school every day and was always in a cheerful mood, always urging him to eat more.
After dinner, Yan Fei sat in the room reading books, trying to figure out how to make bone meal.
Ma Chao’s father was unwell, and Yan Fei didn’t feel the need for anyone else to help with the night shift.
Therefore, he had to return to the Cow Breeding Island every night after completing his day’s work.
Other than Yan Fei, the Cow Breeding Island housed three other people.
The gatekeeper, a man named Li Cheng, and his grandfather, neither of whom could read.
The only literate person was a widow named Lin Yumei.
She was not stupid and knew who was in charge at the Cow Breeding Island.
She never asked what Yan Fei was reading.
Seeing Yan Fei reading, his grandfather and Li Cheng started praised him extravagantly for his exceptional industriousness at a young age.
They were accustomed to praising Yan Fei on his understanding of property management.
However, their constant praising of his love for studying made even his thick-skinned self struggle to accept it.
That night, for the first time, he didn’t feel hungry after only a bit of work.
Yan Fei felt that becoming a Pterosaur and eating some meat actually makes him less hungry so the exploration in the Cow Breeding Island continued.
Thanks to his transformation ability and the swift change between forms, he did not need to worry too much, at least not when he was away from the lake, even at night.
The island was large and consequently was home to relatively more lifeforms.
He found several ‘small’ insects, of course small being a relative term in this dinosaur-dominated world.
For instance, centipedes that were two to three meters long, spiders the size of a washbasin and dung beetles that were many times larger than Yan Fei was used to.
These insects were not numerous and seemed to creep carefully, only daring to come out at night.
Of course, where there were spiders, there would be mosquitoes and such.
These annoying creatures were omnipresent, albeit not in large numbers.
However, their size was horrifying.
What frightened him even more were the Gadflies, or perhaps they should be called Dragonflies here.
Yan Fei reckoned that if a few of them ended up on his Cow Breeding Island, the cows would be finished.
Yan Fei paid more attention to whether these creatures were edible or not.
Although the insects looked disgusting, they were generally harmless as long as he was careful, especially since he had the ability to transform as needed.
