Chapter 1921 The Zhang Family
Chapter 1921 The Zhang Family
Chapter 1921 Going Home
When the car arrived at the dock parking area, Ye Chenghu parked the car, helped Zheng Shuya carry her luggage down, and walked towards the passenger ship.
Zheng Shuya didn't bring much; just a small bag and the crossbody bag Ye Xiaoxi had given her.
"Call me when you arrive." Ye Chenghu handed her the bag.
"Well, by the time I arrive, you'll probably be on the ship by then, so I won't be able to pick you up."
"That's true. Then be careful on the road, be safe on the boat, don't talk to strangers, and don't eat anything given to you by strangers..."
Zheng Shuya interrupted him with a laugh: "Alright, alright, I'm not a three-year-old."
Ye Chenghu scratched his head and chuckled.
The two stood on the pier. The sea breeze was a bit chilly, and Zheng Shuya's scarf was blown up by the wind. Ye Chenghu reached out to help her press it down.
"Let's get on the boat, it's cold outside," he said.
Zheng Shuya nodded, but didn't move.
The two of them just stood there, looking at each other.
Someone walked by, glanced at them, and shook their head with a smile.
Ye Chenghu suddenly stepped forward and quickly kissed Zheng Shuya on the forehead.
Zheng Shuya was stunned for a moment, her face flushed red, and she raised her hand to hit him.
He was prepared and jumped back to avoid it.
"You...you're outside." She looked left and right, like a thief, thankfully no one noticed.
Ye Chenghu grinned and said, "What's wrong with a kiss? Nobody saw it anyway."
Zheng Shuya glared at him and said fiercely, "I'm leaving."
"Go."
Zheng Shuya kept turning back to look at him, and even waved to him after boarding the ship.
Ye Chenghu stood there and waited for the ship to sound its horn before turning back.
Back at the factory, Ye Xiaoxi and Pei Yu were sitting side by side playing Tetris outside Ye Yaodong's office. When they saw Ye Chenghu return, Ye Xiaoxi asked, "Big brother, have you seen him off?"
Ye Chenghu nodded: "They've been seen off."
"Are you reluctant to part with it?"
Ye Chenghu refused to answer and changed the subject, "What are you playing? Tetris? Want me to play a couple of rounds?"
"No, I'm not dead yet."
"Have you loaded everything onto the truck? Check it carefully, don't forget anything."
"No, Mom just checked the room for us again."
When are we eating?
"I don't know, go ask your dad at the parking spot over there."
Ye Xiaoxi didn't look up the whole time, except for glancing at him briefly when he first walked over. After that, she didn't even look at him directly when she spoke.
Ye Chenghu flicked her forehead hard, "You'll end up as nearsighted as your second brother sooner or later, a four-eyed frog!"
She clutched her forehead in pain, saying, "Ouch! Only people who study hard become nearsighted. If I become nearsighted, it means I've studied too hard."
"Bullshit, your second brother is nearsighted from playing video games, you'll definitely be the same."
"My second brother is also good at studying, better than you. I will be better than you too. It's normal for good people to be nearsighted."
"We'll see."
Lin Xiuqing walked over from the dormitory. "Is everything here? Everything has been checked. Your dad said we'll eat at 11 o'clock, so let's finish eating early and then leave."
Ye Chenghu glanced at his watch: "It'll be soon, about half an hour."
"Xiaoya boarded the ship?"
"It's on the way, just sent off."
Lin Xiuqing nodded without asking any further questions, then turned and walked towards the cafeteria to arrange lunch. The aroma of food was already wafting from the cafeteria.
Ye Chenghu invited them to come along, saying, "Let's go to the canteen and wait. We'll eat our fill before we set off—oops, I mean, get on the boat."
Ye Xiaoxi rolled her eyes. "You're going on the road alone."
"Get on the ship, it was a slip of the tongue, don't hold it against me."
"You said it yourself!"
"We're in the same boat, so we can't say anything unlucky..."
Pei Yu smiled as she watched the two bickering.
There were quite a few workers sitting in the canteen, all of them our own people, and we were going back with them.
After a quick lunch, everyone climbed onto the truck bed and squeezed into the pile of luggage.
Ye Yaodong did a final check, gave a few instructions to the person in charge who stayed behind, and then climbed into the passenger seat.
The truck sputtered and chugged off.
Most of the villagers from my hometown went to the dock by themselves. When they arrived, the workers were loading things onto the ship, chatting and laughing.
Two hours later, it was time to officially set off. There was nothing they could do; they had a lot of people and boats, and since they were all going home, they had to look after each other and wait for a while.
In addition, there are many preparations for the fishing boats to leave the port, which take more than half an hour.
Everyone has to take several boat trips back and forth to their hometowns every year. They're used to it, and when they get on the boat, they all consciously find their own seats and beds.
Ye Chenghu and Ye Chengyang also consciously followed Ye Yaodong to the cockpit. As usual, the two brothers took turns driving the boat, with Ye Yaodong supervising.
They waited until nightfall to call the captain to come and take over the watch.
Then the next day, the two brothers took over again.
Even the captain couldn't help but tease, "You two brothers are doing a great job. You can take over your father's job now. You're ready to graduate."
Ye Chenghu said politely, "How could that be? We are still very inexperienced and need to learn a lot from you, Uncle Xiang. We will rely on you a lot in the future."
He's quite experienced now. Ye Yaodong took him along for social occasions a few years ago, and now he can easily spout polite phrases.
“With your father around, you don’t need to rely on us. Your father is the real expert, and you should learn from him.”
"Then you are also seniors, and we should all learn from you."
"Hehe, you two are college students, you're going to have a bright future. You don't need to learn from me, you're already very impressive, the first college students in our village! I'm going to sleep now, you two brothers can keep watch over things here."
"Okay, go eat something and go to sleep."
After everyone left, Ye Chenghu nudged Ye Chengyang and asked, "Why didn't you say a word?"
"Aren't you quite the talker? You can just say it, I just need to follow along and call out the names."
"Then you drive the boat."
Ye Chengyang looked at him like he was an idiot. "Am I not driving?"
Ye Chenghu turned his head, took the binoculars, and went outside.
As long as you don't spend every day at sea, the scenery is quite beautiful.
Two days later, the fishing boat successfully docked.
As soon as they got ashore, they stood still to catch their breath before making a phone call to wait for their family's tractor and car to come and pick them up. They had so much luggage and belongings, and there were many family members with them.
Anyway, it only takes about twenty minutes, just enough time to move the luggage, before the car arrives.
"Master~"
"Wow, you look so young, sir! You drive so cool!"
"Grandpa..."
The twins also called out to their grandfather in turn.
Ye Yaodong assigned the tasks: "Let Ajiang and Chenghe's kids ride in the car, and everyone else can squeeze onto the tractor. We'll be there in no time anyway."
The two thanked them and let the child get on the vehicle first, while the others consciously got on the tractor to sit on their luggage.
"I'm so tired. I can finally lie down when I get home."
"I'll take a shower as soon as I get home, and then lie down. I smelled terrible after two days on the ship."
"It does smell pretty bad. You can smell my hair; it smells like salted fish."
"Me too."
Ye Xiaoxi and Pei Yu smelled each other's hair.
"If you smell my stinky feet, you won't think your hair smells bad anymore," Pei Zuo said with a chuckle.
Ye Xiaoxi glared angrily, "Dare to stick your foot out, and I'll beat you to death."
Pei Yu glared at him and warned, "Stay away from us, don't come near me, or I'll beat you to death."
Pei Zuo: "You may dislike me, but I'm still your brother."
Pei You chimed in, "Thinking you're so fragrant."
"It smells better than yours. The room I stayed in for only a few days smelled like dog poop."
Pei Zuo: "I didn't ask you to smell it."
Ye Huimei looked at the two of them with a headache, glaring at them, "Are you itching for a beating again? We're almost home, and you still have so much energy to argue. When we get back, clean the house for me."
They shut up in two instants.
Everyone else watched them with a smile.
"Raising twins must be more tiring than raising three children, right?"
"It's more than that, it's more tiring than raising four children. They're so old and they're still fighting. I really want to put them back in..."
The car swayed and bumped along the dirt road, unchanged until it became stable after entering the village.
The tractor and the car drove to the front door together, and the little ones jumped off first.
"Grandma, Grandma~ I miss you so much~"
The old lady and Ye's mother stood at the door, beaming with joy as they watched them get out of the car and call out to them. They gathered around them, their mouths agape in delight.
"Grandma, Grandpa~"
Ye Xiaoxi turned her head to the side like she was showing off a treasure, "Look at my ear piercings! Aren't they pretty?"
"Oh my, you got your ears pierced? Does it hurt?" Ye's mother touched her ears with concern.
"Ouch, don't touch it. It's only been three days since the injection, and it's already starting to fester."
"Wait until 7 days have passed, then wear gold or silver earrings and it will stop. If it gets infected, it means you are destined to wear gold and silver. Grandma will buy you a pair of gold earrings to wear during the New Year."
Ye Xiaoxi was overjoyed, "No need to buy me anything, I already have some. Sister Xiaoya bought me a pair of gold earrings, and Xiaoyu bought me a pair too!"
She took out a gold earring from her backpack and showed it to her like a precious treasure.
Mother Ye leaned closer to take a look and clicked her tongue, saying, "This must have cost a lot of money, right? How can you let someone spend so much?"
"I returned the favor! I bought them crossbody bags!" Ye Xiaoxi said matter-of-factly. "Besides, they all struck it rich. One won a thousand yuan, another got a thousand yuan, and my second brother got five hundred yuan. I'm the only one with nothing..."
"What kind of prize can you win 1000 or 500? That's so much money, how did you win? It's so easy to win! Can I win too?"
"It's a year-end celebration hosted by the factory..."
She chattered on about the excitement at the factory a couple of days ago, while Pei Yu chimed in, the twins sourly complaining.
The neighbors all gathered around to watch the commotion, and the adults chatted with them, not in a hurry to go home.
Their luggage was on the tractor and didn't need to be carried. They would stay here for a while and then be taken to their home by the beach.
Hearing them talking about the lively New Year's Eve celebration, Ye's mother laughed: "So you're feeling bad for not getting any?"
"That's right!" Ye Xiaoxi pouted. "All I got was a thermos."
"A thermos is good, it's practical." Mother Ye patted her head. "I'll give you a big red envelope for the New Year to make up for it. The others are all grown up now, so we won't give them red envelopes anymore."
Ye Xiaoxi's eyes lit up: "Really? That's great!"
Ye Chengyang said calmly from the side, "Don't spoil her, she has a lot of money in her pocket."
"You talk too much!" Ye Xiaoxi glared at him. "You're all grown up now, I'm not giving you New Year's money anymore."
"As long as I'm not married, I'm a child!"
On the other side, the old lady went up to Ye Yaodong as soon as he got out of the car and stuffed the sleeve bag in her hand into his arms.
"Hold this to warm your hands, so they don't get cold."
"No, I'm a grown man, how could I get cold?"
"The wind blew all the way back by car, so I had to keep warm."
The old lady reached out to touch his face, and Ye Yaodong squatted down to cooperate, touching his hand as well: "You've lost weight and gotten so dark. You must be exhausted. Did the sea breeze make you tan?"
"Pretty much. If we don't go to sea next year, we'll have come back for nothing."
"Don't go out to sea anymore, it's too dangerous. You've earned enough, you can retire like your father."
"Haha, I'd like to too, but I'll have to wait until the kids are older."
The old lady searched around, looking at the twins, "Is that Chenghu or Yangyang?"
Ye Yaodong chuckled and corrected her, "These two are Huimei's twins."
"Huh? What? Hye-mi got married?"
Ye's mother turned to Ye Yaodong and said, "She's always so confused, sometimes clear-headed, sometimes confused. Talking to her is exhausting."
"As long as I can eat and sleep well, that's good enough."
"That's good. I can eat well and sleep well at night. I just have to get up early and chant Amitabha Buddha's name right in the morning. The radio plays Buddhist scriptures every day."
"As long as she's rested enough and feels good, it doesn't matter what kind of music she plays. Playing Buddhist scriptures can calm her mind and also give you some peace of mind."
"Why would I need so much peace and quiet?" After saying that, Mother Ye happily beckoned her grandsons into the house.
"Come in and sit down for a while. You must be exhausted after sitting on the boat for several days. What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you."
"We'll have braised beef brisket and radish for dinner!"
"I want fish noodles!"
"I want to eat liuliu..."
"Everyone cooks differently, how am I supposed to cook like this?" Mother Ye said, both happy and troubled.
Ye's father followed behind, chuckling, "Who told you to ask? You asked, and there are so many mouths to feed, each one needs a different diet. We'll eat whatever they're cooked for us."
I just want to eat fish noodles!
I want to eat dumplings!
"Oh no, they've come back to collect debts again..."
I just got back, and the house is filled with laughter and joy. I wonder how long this loving relationship between mother and son will last.
Ye Yaodong instructed Lin Xiuqing, "Have your older brother drive the tractor back first. You should go back with him to drop off your luggage first, and I'll go back later."
"Okay, that's what I was thinking too. We need to unload the luggage first, and park the car properly."
The women all went back to put down their luggage first, leaving only the children here to play and be watched by others. This way, they could free up their hands and catch their breath without having to take care of the children.
During their free time, Ye's parents had already cleaned and tidied up the homes of the brothers, so they could move in right away. All they had to do was make up the bedding.
But Lin Xiuqing was still busy as always. She needed to boil water to make tea, make the bed, and organize her personal belongings. She was quite busy.
Ye Yaodong helped the old lady into the house to sit down. Watching the group of children chatting and laughing, the old lady couldn't stop smiling. It was rare for the house to be so lively again.
I just got back and the roof is about to be torn off, it's incredibly noisy.
