Chapter 563 Finding a companion for the mother-in-law!
"You'll have to ask my dad. He'll know if he knows."
Zhong Yuemin looked completely unconcerned.
"If you have one sheep, you can graze it; if you have two sheep, you can still herd them."
Before he could finish speaking, the two women struck him simultaneously, lightly tapping him on the shoulder. Li Yan glared at him, annoyed.
"You think we're sheep? Humph!"
With the clothes almost packed, Qin Ling stood up and straightened his clothes:
"Sister Yan, I have to go home first to see my mother, and I'll come back tomorrow."
Li Yan nodded, reached out and nudged Zhong Yuemin, who was still lingering by the bed, and winked at him:
"You see Qinling off, I'll watch the child." What a lack of tact!
The meaning in his eyes couldn't be clearer: create some time alone for the two of you, seize the opportunity.
Zhong Yuemin didn't hesitate and got up to follow Qin Ling out the door.
Although Qinling now resides in Hong Kong Island, her mother has always stayed in Beijing. Since she has finally come back for a visit, she will definitely go home to see her mother.
The two places were not far apart, about a 20-minute drive away. The car stopped at the entrance of the alley, and the two got out. Zhong Yuemin took out several boxes of gifts from the trunk, all of which were health supplements for the elderly, including bird's nest, ginseng, and donkey-hide gelatin.
I went upstairs, opened the door and went inside. Qinling's mother wasn't home. I didn't know if she had gone out to buy groceries or to chat with her old friends.
Zhong Yuemin put down the gifts and looked around—the room was quiet, just the two of them.
Isn't this a golden opportunity?
Without any hesitation, he followed Qin Ling into the bedroom, and his hands began to wander.
Qinling couldn't resist him, so she half-heartedly let this scoundrel have his way, and this ordeal lasted for more than an hour.
When the clouds dispersed and the rain stopped, the two were exhausted and stuck together like mud.
Qinling nestled in the man's arms, her face still flushed, her tone tinged with a hint of resentment, yet also with immense contentment.
"You've just gotten back and you're already giving me a hard time... Aren't you afraid my mom might suddenly come back and see this?"
"What are you afraid of?"
Zhong Yuemin twirled the woman's hair with his fingers and said casually, "Your mother knows our relationship... she might even be hoping for it. If we have a baby, she'll be happy."
Qin Ling rolled her eyes at him, too lazy to argue with him. After a moment of silence, she remembered something and spoke:
"Speaking of which, there's something I want to tell you."
"Ok?"
"My mom lives alone in Beijing, she's quite lonely." Qin Ling's tone became serious.
"I want her to move to Hong Kong Island and live with me. You... don't object, right?"
“Why would I object to this?” Zhong Yuemin said matter-of-factly.
"That's your mother, you can arrange things however you want."
He paused, then added:
"However... I'm afraid your mother won't agree. Old people are sentimental. She's lived here her whole life and knows all the neighbors and old friends. If she really goes to Hong Kong Island, she'll be unfamiliar with the place and won't speak the language. She'll feel stifled. The saying 'returning to one's roots' isn't just for show."
Qin Ling sighed softly, his voice tinged with helplessness:
"Actually... I've tried to persuade her to come to Hong Kong Island with me several times before, but my mother just doesn't want to. She says she's lived in Beijing for most of her life and is used to it. She feels suffocated if she goes there and has no one to talk to."
Zhong Yuemin turned to the side, propped himself up on his arm, and looked at her:
"If you really care about your mother, you might as well... find her a companion."
"Looking for a companion?" Qin Ling was taken aback.
"Correct."
Zhong Yuemin said earnestly,
"People become more nostalgic as they get older, and they fear loneliness more as they get older. Having someone at home to talk to, someone who cares about you, is better than anything else. You're busy with your career in Hong Kong every day, how many times a year can you come back? Your mother is alone in the empty house, and after a while, she feels empty inside."
Qin Ling shook his head, his tone resolute:
“I know my mom. She had deep feelings for my dad. Even after all these years since he passed away, she still can’t let go of him. Finding someone else… is impossible.”
"Don't be so dogmatic."
Zhong Yuemin, however, disagreed.
“Look at my dad. My mom left when I was around ten years old. He was single for decades and he got by, didn’t he? And now? He still gets along very well with my Aunt Wang.”
"Your mom just hasn't met the right person yet, how about... I find her a few?"
Qin Ling couldn't help but roll her eyes at him, but a slight smile played on her lips:
"What suitable suggestions do you have? Stop worrying about this."
"What do you mean by worrying unnecessarily!"
Zhong Yuemin said,
“In our compound, there are plenty of retired cadres and workers, widowed or single, and quite a few of them are well-off. Why don’t you consider it…?”
"Will this work?" Qin Ling asked skeptically.
"Give it a try. Don't worry too much. Your mom isn't some virgin. Finding a partner to take care of and support each other won't hurt. Maybe your mom will be more than happy to have you ask."
"Get lost!" Qin Ling raised her hand and slapped him, saying irritably, "Do you think everyone is as impatient as you when it comes to this kind of thing?"
As the two were talking, they heard the sound of a door opening outside, followed by the soft sound of keys being placed on the shoe cabinet.
Qin Ling's expression changed, and he lowered his voice: "It seems like my mother has come back!"
Before she could finish speaking, her mother's voice came from the living room:
"Xiaoling? You're back?"
Qin Ling hurriedly scrambled off Zhong Yuemin, tidying his disheveled hair as he shouted in response:
"Hey! Mom, I'm home!"
Seeing that Zhong Yuemin was still lying lazily in bed, showing no intention of getting up, she got impatient and pinched his arm hard:
"Get up! It's all your fault!"
Zhong Yuemin then slowly sat up, and the two of them got out of bed, picked up their clothes from the floor, and put them on.
