The crackdown on organized crime began with the arrest of the mother-in-law.

Chapter 1392 Footprint Analysis and Reconstruction

Chapter 1392 Footprint Analysis and Reconstruction

Xiao Yang used an investigation light to illuminate the footprint from different angles, attempting to reconstruct the complete pattern features. "Judging from the remaining pattern fragments, this footprint matches the characteristics of a size 42 mesh sneaker footprint, which is very likely left by the suspect when abandoning the body." Because the footprint was blurry, plaster casting was not possible. Xiao Yang could only use a high-resolution camera to take pictures of the footprint from multiple angles, and at the same time, use trace extraction tape to extract trace material samples from the surface of the footprint.

During a meticulous search of the garbage within a one-meter radius of the body, Xiao Sun discovered several white synthetic fibers, different from the cotton fibers found in the deceased's clothing. "These fibers likely came from the suspect's clothing or the tools used to dispose of the body," Xiao Sun explained. He carefully extracted fiber samples using a fiber extractor. "Landfill sites themselves contain a large amount of fiber impurities. We need to compare the extracted fiber samples with the fibers from the deceased's clothing and the surrounding environment to eliminate interfering factors before we can determine if they were left by the suspect." To date, the two have collected two bloodstain samples, three hair samples, five fiber samples, two footprint samples, and three suspected items in the core area.

To further determine the route of the body disposal, Xiao Yang and Xiao Sun extended their investigation deeper into the landfill, following the tire tracks and footprints of tricycles around the core area. About 30 meters from the core area, in an abandoned drainage ditch, they discovered an abandoned tricycle. The tricycle was in a dilapidated state, covered in rust and garbage, and the tire tread pattern perfectly matched the "Tire Track Sample No. 2" previously collected and the tire tracks of tricycles around the core area. "This tricycle is highly suspicious!" Xiao Yang immediately conducted a thorough examination of the tricycle. "The surface of the vehicle is covered with a large amount of dust and stains, and the cargo bed contains a small amount of household garbage and a few black fibers, the same color as the deceased's hair."

Xiao Sun used a fingerprint brush and magnetic powder to extract fingerprints from the handlebars and the edge of the cargo bed of the tricycle: "Three blurry fingerprints were extracted from the handlebars. Due to long-term use and environmental erosion, the fingerprint feature points are incomplete and need to be sent to the technical department for enhancement processing; a relatively clear fingerprint was extracted from the edge of the cargo bed, which was initially determined to be a male fingerprint, and may belong to the same person as the previously extracted footprints." The two also found a small amount of dark red, suspected bloodstains at the bottom of the cargo bed, which were extracted with cotton swabs and marked as "Evidence Sample No. 8 at the scene." "Based on the location of the tricycle and the tire tracks, the suspect likely drove this tricycle to transport the body to the landfill, abandoned the body, and then discarded the tricycle in the drainage ditch," Xiao Yang said.

While investigating the area around the tricycle, the two men found half a "Hongtashan" brand cigarette butt with obvious saliva residue on it. "The cigarette butt was about 2 meters from the tricycle, and it was very likely left by the suspect while resting after disposing of the body," said Xiao Sun. He put the cigarette butt into an evidence bag. "We will extract DNA samples from the cigarette butt and compare them with the DNA of the deceased and the owner of the footprints. If the deceased is ruled out, it is very likely that the suspect left it." In addition, the two men also found several scattered buttons in the weeds around the drainage ditch. The buttons were made of plastic and were black in color, similar to the missing buttons on the deceased's clothing, suggesting that they were dropped while moving the body.

At 1:30 PM, Xiao Yang and Xiao Sun reported the investigation results to Li Ming: "Team Leader Li, the preliminary on-site investigation is complete. A large amount of trace evidence has been collected, but the identity of the deceased has not yet been determined, nor has any key evidence directly pointing to the suspect been found. The deceased's personal belongings are missing, and a preliminary judgment can only be made based on physical characteristics and clothing; the fingerprints and footprints collected need to be sent to the technical department for enhanced processing and database comparison, and the DNA tests of fibers, bloodstains, hair, and cigarette butts also require further waiting for results; although the abandoned pedicab is highly suspicious, its ownership has not yet been determined; the handwriting on the express delivery slip is blurred and the specific information cannot be identified."

After hearing the report, Li Ming immediately made arrangements: "First, the technical department should immediately conduct a comprehensive examination of the extracted physical evidence, focusing on analyzing fingerprints, footprints, fibers, and bloodstains to try to identify the suspect; second, arrange for investigators to visit and investigate garbage truck drivers, scavengers, and residents around the North Suburbs Landfill to find out if any suspicious persons have been active at the landfill recently, or if they have seen the abandoned pedicab; third, retrieve surveillance footage from the landfill entrance and surrounding roads, and if available, focus on investigating those who drove pedicabs into the landfill before and after the incident; fourth, contact relevant departments to verify the identity of the deceased and issue a notice for assistance based on physical characteristics and clothing information."

Afterwards, Li Ming approached Mr. Li, the person who reported the incident, to further understand the situation. Mr. Li stated that he scavenges at the landfill every morning and had recently seen several strange men loitering around the landfill. One of them had driven a vehicle similar to the abandoned pedicab, but due to the distance, he couldn't see the man's face or clothing clearly. "About three days ago, I saw that man park his pedicab at the entrance of the landfill, then go inside. He didn't come out for about an hour, looking very flustered," Mr. Li recalled.

Investigators immediately recorded the timeframes mentioned by Mr. Li and assigned personnel to retrieve any available surveillance footage from the area surrounding the landfill. Simultaneously, they began tracing the abandoned tricycle, contacting relevant dealers and repair shops using its chassis number and brand model to investigate the purchaser and user. However, due to the tricycle's extreme age and the illegible chassis number, the tracing work faced significant difficulties.

At this time, the technical department reported preliminary news: the blood samples collected at the scene were partially confirmed to be the blood of the deceased after testing.
