Chapter 2779 - 2780: Jinse Backs Out
"What’s wrong?" Bai Ruozhu quickly walked over.
Jiang Yichun nodded towards the tombstone, "Water has seeped into the grave. The people guarding here plan to report it. I considered that the National Master is your master too, so I secretly controlled the water vapor, trying to get the seeped water out, but then discovered..."
"The grave is empty?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
"You knew?" Jiang Yichun was somewhat surprised.
Bai Ruozhu laughed, "If a great figure doesn’t fake their death or come back to life, they aren’t great. But if they don’t find us, it means they don’t want to work as hard as before; let’s pretend we don’t know anything."
"What if their body was stolen?" Jiang Yichun asked.
"Impossible." Bai Ruozhu shook her head, "My senior brother set up a barrier here, an exclusive Astrology Tower barrier. If the barrier is still intact, it means no one from outside the Astrology Tower forcibly broke it. It’s likely the National Master taught someone how to unobtrusively break the barrier, then restored it as if nothing happened."
Jiang Yichun sighed with relief, "That’s good, I was really worried his body might be used by someone."
"Anyway, since we’re here, let’s at least go through the motions of worship." Bai Ruozhu smiled at him, and not far away a guard glanced in their direction.
She lit incense and candles, knelt down seriously, and performed the ceremonial rites.
"What does Meng Jinse have to say?" Jiang Yichun helped her up.
"She could never be serene as water, naturally dragged away by me. She wants to say goodbye to the people in the temple before we take her down the mountain back to the Bai Residence." Bai Ruozhu said.
Jiang Yichun sighed with relief, "That’s good, I was worried we might spend too much time with her."
Bai Ruozhu laughed, "You’re eager to return home, just like me."
The two talked as they walked down the mountain, only to find that Meng Jinse wasn’t waiting for them at the gate of Jingxin Temple, instead, she was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is she?" Bai Ruozhu vaguely sensed something was wrong.
An elderly nun walked over and greeted them, "Hui Xin asked you to go back. She is devoted to Buddha and has no interest in worldly affairs."
Hui Xin was Meng Jinse’s religious name.
"Where is she? Let her tell me herself." Bai Ruozhu was getting angry, it was agreed, how could she suddenly change her mind?
"Please go back, benefactor, don’t make things difficult for me." The elderly nun said with her hands together.
Bai Ruozhu wanted to force her way in, but Jiang Yichun held her back, "Forget it, we can’t force this. Let’s go back."
He winked at her secretly, and Bai Ruozhu immediately understood his meaning.
"Let’s go." She said defiantly, puffing her cheeks.
The two left Jingxin Temple and quickly went to a deserted spot nearby.
"Something feels odd. Instead of wasting words with them, let’s quietly check out the backyard." Jiang Yichun said.
Bai Ruozhu agreed, "Then be careful, it wouldn’t sound good if people found out that a valiant General is sneaking into a nunnery."
"This is called risking one’s life for my wife." Jiang Yichun laughed.
Bai Ruozhu felt a bit better; she was anxious earlier because Meng Jinse’s situation made her particularly concerned.
The two sneaked into the backyard of Jingxin Temple.
When a nun arrived, they quickly hid in a side room.
"I wonder what Hui Ming and Hui Xin said to each other. Hui Xin doesn’t want to leave with her family. If my family were willing to take me away, I definitely wouldn’t hesitate." A young nun said to her companion.
Some of the nuns here didn’t come voluntarily. Some were sent by their husband’s family to uphold their reputation when their husbands died early, wishing they would remain faithful, thus sending them to Jingxin Temple.
Initially, the husband’s family would send some supplies, but as time passed, who would remember?
"I was sent by my brother and sister-in-law, afraid I’d eat more of their food being a widow. They never would come to take me back." Another nun complained, "Hui Xin truly doesn’t know how fortunate she is. You see, after she came, her family sends rice, oil, and salt occasionally, and the temple has benefited greatly. With her family willing to take her back, is she really going to stay here forever?"
"Foolish, because with her around, good things keep coming. That old woman Hui Ming doesn’t want her to leave; otherwise, she wouldn’t have pulled this stunt."
They walked further away, their voices getting fainter, but Bai Ruozhu understood most of it. Hui Ming was that older nun, though it was unclear what she said to Meng Jinse.
It was evident the nuns didn’t know Meng Jinse’s real identity, but did Hui Ming know?
"Achun, you wait outside. Knowing what’s going on, I’m going to make a big scene." Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth, even nuns couldn’t escape her ire.
"Alright, I’ll be waiting outside." Jiang Yichun smiled. His woman was about to show her prowess, he’d cheer her on.
Bai Ruozhu jumped into the yard and shouted, "Hui Ming, Hui Xin, come out for me!"
Hidden in the room, Meng Jinse trembled, hurriedly closed her eyes, and recited scriptures, trying to calm herself down and stop thinking too much.
Hui Ming heard but pretended not to, continuing to chant with closed eyes, double chin quivering.
"You’re not coming out, huh? Then I’ll set Jingxin Temple on fire." Bai Ruozhu threatened while lighting a firestick, gathering dry branches in the backyard to start a fire.
This startled the nuns, some ran to the Buddha Hall upfront, fearing the fire might reach them.
"Someone is stopping my sister from renouncing her vows, I’ll see how you continue to stop her without Jingxin Temple!" Bai Ruozhu shouted.
"Fire! Fire!" The nuns cried out, someone brought water to extinguish it, but Bai Ruozhu glared at them, "If you want to die, come over."
Someone not believing, carried a bucket forward, only to suddenly hit an invisible wall, seeing stars while the water bucket clattered to the ground.
"Ghost barrier! Ghost barrier!" The nun hadn’t seen a magic technique before, turned pale and fled, no longer mentioning putting out the fire.
"Hui Ming, come out or I’ll butcher you!" Bai Ruozhu shouted.
Finally, the plump older nun waddled out.
"What are you doing, benefactor? Hui Xin doesn’t want to renounce her vows, you shouldn’t take it out on the temple." Hui Ming said without much pain or regret.
Bai Ruozhu moved swiftly, appeared in front of her, and kicked her hard.
"What are you pretending for? Don’t think I don’t know your mind games. A nun who eats vegetarian daily can’t be this fat. You’re afraid Hui Xin will leave with no one bringing good things anymore. I can understand your selfishness, but blocking my sister’s path, I won’t let it go!" Bai Ruozhu shouted.
Hui Ming struggled to get up, "Don’t think I don’t know who she is. Don’t push me too far!"
