Chapter 647: Code Black (3)
Chapter 647: Code Black (3)
Eve and Eliya had the right idea, but there was something crucial they were missing.
While Ash had certainly played a part in how dire the situation had become over the past hour, he wasn’t the one responsible for the deaths of the Domain Lords.
No—aside from Ash, Nia, Elysia, Ouroboros, and Primordia, who had only recently joined the battlefield, there were already members of the Ineffable Pantheon present.
And when it came to members on the battlefield, there were a great many of them.
For the past two centuries, they had treated the war as nothing more than a form of entertainment, only now finding it worth their full attention as events took a more intriguing turn.
The two Guardians however, they would have never guessed that there were so many beings close to Ash with enough power to kill Domain Lords with ease.
------
Eve and Eliya begun to fight in the fractured skies again, their movements precise and controlled even as the swarm of Divine Horrors pressed in from every direction.
With each passing second, they shaped new constructs directly from their minds — layered golden barriers, white spears of condensed light, and floating hexagonal shields that materialized instantly to intercept attacks.
ROOOAAAR!!!!!
A massive Horror with too many limbs and a body covered in shifting golden eyes lunged at Eliya.
However, she didn’t slow down.
SHKKKK!!!!
A long, gleaming white spear materialized in her grasp, and with a swift, decisive thrust, she plunged it straight through the creature’s midsection.
But it’s important to understand that these attacks weren’t simply physical or mental—they struck directly at the very fabric of the narrative itself.
Anything born from a lower idea or higher inherently wove itself into the greater story, drawing upon its threads in some way.
The Horror let out a distorted shriek as its body began to unravel, but before it could fully disintegrate, two more Horrors took its place.
BOOOOMMMM!!!!!
HUMMMM!!!!!
Eve lifted her hand at the sight, and a thick golden barrier burst to life before them, blocking a surge of divinity launched from a swarm of smaller Horrors.
The shield held firm, though thin cracks had already begun creeping across its surface.
Eliya clicked her tongue, twirling her spear before slicing down another Horror that had managed to slip past her last strike.
"Are they’re adapting to us?" she mused, her voice carrying a hint of frustration.
"Yeah... they definitely are doing something. My constructs aren’t working as well as they did even ten minutes ago."
Eve remained calm, her golden eyes facing forward as she continuously reinforced the barrier protecting what remained of their company behind them.
"You’re right... they’re becoming resistant to our ideas," Eve replied. "The more we use the same methods, the less effective they become. It’s as if they’re developing a tolerance."
SKREEEEE!!!!!!
BOOOOOOM!!!!!
Another Horror let out a high-pitched, unnatural scream as it slammed into one of Eliya’s white constructs.
This time, instead of being torn apart immediately, the creature twisted its body mid-impact, slipping through a narrow gap before the construct could fully activate.
It lunged toward Eliya with renewed aggression, forcing her to dodge and counterattack.
Eliya landed back beside Eve, breathing slightly heavier than before.
"...This is getting annoying," she muttered. "At this rate, we’ll be overwhelmed before long."
Eve didn’t respond right away. She continued shaping new defensive constructs with her mind, her expression thoughtful even as the battle raged around them.
After a few seconds, she spoke again, her voice lower.
"How long do you think it will be before he shows up?"
Eliya glanced at her, understanding immediately who she meant.
"...Tsk, Ancestor... can you forget about that man for even a moment?" she asked as she thought the conversation about Ash had already ended.
But here they were again...
Eve rolled her eyes at the comment.
"Stop pretending you’re not thinking about him too, child," she said. Ever since the vision Ash had given them, it was hard not to picture him—especially now, when it felt like he was so close to appearing.
Eliya stayed quiet for a moment before letting out a short, bitter laugh.
"Whether I want to admit it or not... everything he told us back then is starting to add up," she said.
"He promised he’d come for us when this place began to fall apart... said we were already his." She muttered, recalling the vision he had shown them.
"That the next time we saw him would be when the Prime Expanse was on the verge of destruction."
She drove her spear through another Horror, her white eyes narrowing.
"And now look at this place—it’s collapsing, these new Horrors are appearing out of nowhere, and Domain Lords are dying left and right. So, if he’s going to show..."
Eliya didn’t finish the sentence. She didn’t need to.
Eve stayed quiet, though the subtle tightening of her jaw betrayed that she’d been thinking the exact same thing.
They knew Ash... but they didn’t really know him.
Neither of them could say for sure if he was actually behind all of this, if he even had the means to reach this place... or worse, if something had happened to him before he could make it to the Expanse.
The truth was that they simply didn’t know.
And that uncertainty only highlighted how little these two women truly understood about their future husband.
One thing was certain—if he was involved in most of what was happening, he would never arrive quietly.
His presence would be impossible to ignore, leaving a lasting mark in the minds of everyone who witnessed it.
If they really knew him, they’d understand that his arrival would signal the start of something significant.
All they had were assumptions.
Eve let out a quiet sigh as she raised her hand, reinforcing another layer of golden barriers around them.
The constant pressure from the Divine Horrors was starting to wear on her.
"Whether he’s here or not..." she said, her voice calm but tired, "we need to find a better way to sustain ourselves. At this rate, we’re going to burn through our strength before we even understand what’s going on."
