Chapter 1085: Love Arrives Unexpectedly

Chapter 1085: Love Arrives Unexpectedly

Powell Library is one of UC’s iconic buildings, with red brick walls, arched doors and windows, and a retro-style reading room inside. The huge floor-to-ceiling windows make the entire interior space exceptionally bright.

As soon as Maowa entered, he saw Su Jin. There were several thick books piled up in front of her, and she was writing something in her notebook.

He quietly sat down opposite her and placed a cup of coffee in front of her.

Su Jin looked up and, seeing it was him, immediately smiled, "You're here!"

Maowa explained, "The experiment went smoothly today, so I came out early. I thought it had been a long time since I'd seen you, and I wondered how you were doing, so I came to check on you."

He then glanced at the thick books in front of Su Jin and asked, "What are you busy with?"

"The professor assigned me an assignment to compare female characters in 17th-century Chinese and British dramas." Su Jin rubbed her temples. "There's so much material, my head is spinning."

Maowa nodded: "It sounds complicated."

Su Jin asked, "And you? What stage are your experiments at?"

"It's alright. Now we just need to wait for the data to come out, so I'll have a little more free time in the next few days."

Su Jin nodded, then suddenly remembered something: How did you get to the international student gathering the night after tomorrow?

"I was just about to tell you that! Let's take a taxi together!"

"Sure, but my roommate is coming with me, so let's bring her along too!"

Mao Wa knew about the Singaporean Chinese woman named Monica that Su Jin had mentioned, and he nodded to indicate that it was no problem.

Su Jin suddenly asked again, "Are you hungry? Let's go eat together? I know a Thai restaurant."

Maowa glanced at the time. "It's only five o'clock. Didn't you have to do your homework?"

Su Jin sighed, "I can't finish writing it all, but I still need to eat!"

The two quickly packed their things and left the library.

The temperature in Los Angeles at the end of May is comfortable with gentle sunshine, similar to the Jiangnan region in China, except that it is relatively drier here.

The two walked side by side on campus, occasionally encountering students carrying books or laptops in groups of three or five.

Su Jin suddenly laughed and said, "I quite like this feeling."

The little boy didn't understand at first: "What does it feel like?"

"I spent the afternoon in the library, and when I came out, someone went to eat with me." She said, glancing at Maowa furtively, her face slightly flushed.

Maowa laughed.

The Thai restaurant wasn't far away, but it was quite popular; it was almost full when they arrived.

There were only a few seats left in the corners, but the two didn't mind and found a quiet corner to sit down.

While waiting for the food, Su Jin asked, "How's your exam preparation going?"

Maowa took a sip of water: "It's alright. My grades usually have a higher weighting in the overall score, so I feel less pressure during exams. How about you? How are you doing?"

Su Jin rested her chin on her hand, looking troubled: "The amount of reading is too much, and I'm a slow reader to begin with."

Maowa advised, "Take it slow, you've only been here for two months."

Su Jin nodded: "Do you think I'm useless? Back in China, I thought I was pretty good, but after coming here, I realized there are always people better than me, and I'm far behind."

Maowa disagreed: "No way! It's already quite impressive that you came here alone to exchange and learn."

Su Jin smiled: "Thank you for your comfort."

Maowa shook his head: "I'm not trying to comfort you, I'm just telling the truth."

The food was served, and the two began to eat.

After taking a few bites, Su Jin asked again, "Have you ever attended a Chinese international student party before?"

Mao Wa frankly said, "I've been there, but it wasn't very interesting. It's just a group of people getting together to eat and drink. Some of the people from China especially like to compare themselves to others. You'll see when you go."

Actually, if Su Jin hadn't wanted to participate, Mao Wa wouldn't have wanted to go at all. He couldn't connect with those people at all; they were always showing off their mansions or luxury cars, as if they couldn't demonstrate their status without mentioning these things.

Su Jin said thoughtfully, "I see!"

Maowa didn't really want to discuss this topic, so he changed the subject to his friend James.

"James is currently preparing to shoot a new film. This time it's not a documentary, but a short film. He's been looking for actors around these past few days."

Sure enough, Su Jin asked curiously, "Did you find it?"

Maowa shook his head: "I don't know, probably not, he has pretty high standards."

Su Jin laughed: "Are all directing students like this?"

"Others may not know, but that's just how he is. Park Sung-ho said that when James becomes a big director, he must give him a role, even if it's just a minor character, as a way for him to support James."

Su Jin was amused.

After the two finished their meal, Maowa took Su Jin back to the library.

At the library entrance, Su Jin asked, "So you don't need to go to the lab tonight, right?"

Maowa nodded: "I'm not going. I haven't had a break lately, and I'm a bit tired. I'll go back to the dorm and read for a while."

"Alright then!"

"Go inside, finish writing quickly so you can go back and rest."

Su Jin nodded, turned around, and went into the library.

Mao Wa waited until she went inside before Cai turned and walked towards her apartment.

After getting home, he made himself a cup of coffee, but instead of reading, he sat by the window, staring blankly at the spring scenery outside. For some reason, he couldn't calm down.

He was recalling what Su Jin had said earlier: "It feels so good to have someone to go out to eat with after spending the afternoon in the library."

Actually, he really wanted to tell her that he also liked this feeling.

At this moment, he realized that he seemed to have fallen for this girl, and that she seemed to have the same feelings for him.

This reminded him of when his third uncle visited him more than two months ago and suggested that he find a girlfriend. At the time, he thought it was a long way off, but unexpectedly, love came to him without him even realizing it.

Two days later, in the evening, Su Jin carefully adjusted her skirt in front of the mirror. Today she was wearing a light blue dress with the hem just reaching her knees, and she had also put on a white cardigan over it. Her hair was simply draped down, and she looked fresh and elegant, which was her usual style.

Monica looked at her and said, "Su, you look really good in this."

Su Jin smiled and expressed her gratitude: "Thank you!"

At this point, Monica asked, "Do you know who's hosting tonight's party?"

Su Jin shook her head; she really didn't know.

Monica explained to her, "It's Bian Chengcai. His grandfather is a big shot in your country's real estate industry, named Bian Zhengze. Have you heard of him?"

"Bian Zhengze?" Su Jin certainly knew this name; she often saw it in domestic media.
