Chapter 16 My Friend Dave
Chapter 16 My Friend Dave
Mo Fan put Xin Xia and Lin Yun'er down. "You two rest here first. I have something to do. I'll come find you when I'm done."
"Brother Mo Fan, aren't you staying in the safety barrier?" Xin Xia asked worriedly.
"I need to go back to the city to help out," Mo Fan said.
"That's too dangerous!" Lin Yun'er said.
"Only by experiencing danger can a mage grow quickly." Once a mage reaches the intermediate level, their rate of improvement will slow down. They can't just stay in the comfortable life of school. This was one of the reasons why Mu Ningxue's cultivation level was caught up by Mo Fan.
Mo Fan chatted with Zhang Xiaohou for a few minutes before meeting up with Li Ya and Ma Kui.
"How are you two doing?" Mo Fan asked first.
"It's a small matter, much simpler than protecting a large group of people," Li Ya laughed. Although he didn't have a spirit seed, his combat experience was quite good.
"Okay." Mo Fan nodded. "We still need to go back and help block those big underground passages and catch a few members of the Black Vatican while we're at it."
"Before that, you need to go see that military commander. He's waiting for you at the watchtower over there," Ma Kui said.
"I'll be right back."
After an officer reported the news, Mo Fan saw Zhan Kong from the watchtower. "Not bad, not even a scratch."
"Not bad, demons avoid me." Mo Fan replied with a grin.
"Where is the Sacred Spring?"
"This stuff is hard to hide, so I might as well drink it."
"Drank it? You could drink so much?" Zhan Kong stared at Mo Fan.
"I can drink it." Mo Fan's tone was firm. He knew what Zhan Kong meant. There were so many Earthly Sacred Springs, who would believe he could drink it?
"Let's drink it!" Zhan Kong shook his head. Bo Cheng was in a more critical situation now.
"Chief Instructor, don't worry, I'll remember this favor. Just let me know if you need anything in the future." Mo Fan thumped his chest.
"You brat... I won't hold back." Zhan Kong didn't look at Mo Fan again. This matter was nothing to him, as long as it wasn't in the hands of the Black Church.
Then Zhan Kong led his nine men to attack Yi Canglang. As the military commander of Bocheng, it was his responsibility to kill Yi Canglang.
After bidding farewell to Zhan Kong, Mo Fan, Li Ya, and Ma Kui headed towards the fallen city of Bocheng, where several large demon cave entrances needed to be blocked as soon as possible.
"Let's split up and first block the opening closer to the Yinmao Building to reduce the pressure on Zhan Kong's side," Mo Fan said.
"Split up? How are you going to block the entrance? Your strength isn't enough, is it?" Li Ya asked worriedly.
"I have a friend named Dave, and he's quite skilled," Mo Fan said casually. It made perfect sense that Dave was a necromancer.
"As long as you're prepared." Li Ya and Ma Kui had no right to interfere with Mo Fan.
After parting ways with Li Ya and Ma Kui, Mo Fan arrived at the location of the Bo City Library. There was a fairly large underground passage exit in the park in front of the library. Zhan Kong led his men to fight against the Winged Wolf. Most of the War General-level Demon Wolves in the city had been transferred there by the Winged Wolf.
Near the exit of the passage were one-eyed demon wolves and several warrior-level blood-patterned giant rats. Mo Fan found a secluded spot on the edge of the second floor of the library, where four steel frames intersected, providing him with a foothold.
The number of one-eyed demon wolves and giant-eyed blood rats ahead is enormous. Even if Mo Fan rushed in alone and exhausted all his magic energy, he might not be able to block the entrance. He had just broken through to the intermediate level of lightning and fire magic and could probably release about four intermediate-level spells.
There are quite a few books of star charts, more than a dozen, but since he is a member of the Inquisition, it's impossible for them to only give him a few.
"Undead Summoning!"
Mo Fan was very familiar with the mid-level star chart of the necromancy system. The gray star chart transformed into a pitch-black cave on the cement ground, and a cold and eerie aura emanated from it. The roar of the undead instantly attracted the attention of all the demons near the cave entrance of the park.
There are many similar locations to the park's cave entrances, and teams of mages have already begun cleaning them. However, the number of mages is currently severely insufficient, and the cleaning of the cave entrances closer to the center has been postponed.
This allows Mo Fan to safely unleash his necromancy abilities.
The pitch-black cave was like the gaping maw of hell, from which one after another enormous figure exuding a dense aura of death crawled out.
Their bodies were completely covered by thick black armor, which was not finely forged, but rather more like some kind of solidified, metallic-looking skeleton and a condensation of resentment, covered with pits and scratches, yet exuding a chilling sense of solidity.
Each skeleton was over three meters tall, with a skeleton as thick as the gnarled roots of an ancient tree, appearing even more imposing and ferocious under the black armor.
In their hands, they gripped terrifying weapons commensurate with their size—giant horse-slaying swords. The blades were over four meters long and as wide as a door panel. The edges were not absolutely sharp, but they carried a heavy, blunt feel and jagged, menacing serrations, as if they had cleaved through flesh and steel countless times.
The sword was also shrouded in ominous black energy; merely holding it felt like dragging a shadow of death.
Thirty black-armored, horse-slaying, greatsword-wielding undead skeletons stood silently in formation, without roars or howls, only the teeth-grinding creaking of their armor joints and the eerie blue soul fire burning silently in their empty eye sockets in the darkness.
They stood in two rows, like two walls of death built of steel and bones that rose instantly from the ground, their eerie sense of order revealing a pure will to destroy.
The next second, the wall of death knives moved.
There were no bugle calls for a charge, only the sudden burst of heavy footsteps, like an avalanche. Thirty massive skeletal statues stepped forward simultaneously, their huge feet, covered in black armor, stomping heavily on the ground with muffled thuds, causing the ground to tremble.
The giant horse-slaying swords in their hands were no longer dragged, but were raised high, the heavy blades tearing through the air with a dull whistling sound.
The target—ahead lay a horde of demons, a cacophony of ferocious howls from one-eyed wolves and piercing screechs from giant-eyed rats, their undead skeletons charging with an overwhelming, unstoppable force.
Like a silent, black torrent of steel, carrying the deathly will to shatter everything, it charged and crushed the demon horde. The thirty giant swords that were raised were about to unleash a bloodbath among the demons.
The small undead army formation with only thirty skeletons in Mo Fan's hands was a method of undead warfare that he had researched for a long time. He was just an undead mage, not an undead lord, and the number of undead under his command was limited.
If the undead horde tactic is not suitable, then the Ancient Formation is the best and most suitable tactic for a small number of undead. The disadvantages of the Ancient Formation disappear completely in the undead army. The Ancient Formation is simply tailor-made for the undead army.
The demon horde composed of one-eyed wolves and giant-eyed blood rats outnumbered Mo Fan and his undead by several times, but their equipment was far inferior to that of Mo Fan and his undead.
