Chapter 16 The arrogant thug, he didn't believe Chen Mo could take on 5 people at once?
There were about ten people standing in the middle of the open space.
Chen Mo glanced over and quickly counted the number of people: five men and the rest were all women.
The women all looked to be around eighteen or nineteen years old, with brightly colored hair, wearing tank tops and hot pants, and stockings of various colors on their legs.
The five men were older, in their early twenties, and stood on the outermost edge, like five crooked pillars.
The man in the lead was covered in tattoos and had dyed blond hair.
The other men also looked like thugs, with cigarettes dangling from their mouths, fierce eyes, and a nonchalant attitude; they were clearly not good people.
But everyone was very thin, like a few bamboo poles bent by the wind.
The five women stood at the very back, forming a semicircle, blocking a young girl in the middle.
The girl who was surrounded looked to be no more than seventeen or eighteen years old.
She was wearing a pink and white JK uniform, with a pair of white over-the-knee stockings on her legs. The stockings had a delicate lace trim around the top and clung tightly to her shapely calves, gleaming softly in the morning light.
She was wearing a pair of brown leather shoes, one of the shoelaces was untied and dragging on the ground.
Her face was filled with terror.
Tears still clung to the corners of her eyes, and teardrops shimmered in the morning light.
There was a red, swollen patch on my left cheek, spreading from my cheekbone to my chin, as if I had been slapped hard by something.
She clutched her collar with both hands, her body trembling, shrinking there like a small animal cornered against a wall.
The girl noticed Coco and the others who had just arrived, and a glimmer of light suddenly flashed in the corner of her tearful eyes.
"Coco! I'm here!"
Coco's body suddenly stiffened.
Her fingers clenched into fists, and her body trembled with anger.
The five men turned around at the same time.
The thugs tilted their heads, squinted, and scanned the room before finally fixing their gaze on Chen Mo.
Their gazes lingered on the girls for a few more moments, drifting between their slender waists and fair legs, and the corners of their mouths slowly curled up into a nauseatingly greasy smile.
Once he saw the number of people on the other side—five women and one man—his smile turned into disdain.
The blond-haired man took the cigarette butt out of his mouth, pinched it between his thumb and forefinger, and casually flicked it on the ground.
He strode over arrogantly, followed by four men who looked menacing, like five hyenas that had smelled blood.
The golden retriever walked up to Coco, less than two steps away, and looked down at her from above.
"Oh, they even brought in reinforcements."
He tilted his head, chuckled, and looked at him with disdain.
"You few dare to come here?"
Coco clenched her fists even tighter, her nails digging into her palms, leaving several white marks.
She swallowed hard, raised her chin, and stared intently at the golden retriever's face.
"Release my friend."
The golden retriever grinned.
He shook his head and turned his neck, making a crisp click in his cervical spine.
"Your friend seduced my sister's boyfriend."
"This matter cannot be left unresolved."
The girl who was surrounded suddenly poked her head out from the crowd, her voice trembling with tears.
"Bullshit! I didn't seduce him!"
Her tears welled up again, streaming down her swollen cheeks, her voice trembling.
"He's the one harassing me! He's blocked me several times, and I can't escape him!"
Her voice grew softer and softer, and the last half of her sentence was almost shouted out, the last syllable breaking into a sob, then into intermittent whimpers.
The golden retriever turned around and glanced at her, his gaze cold and disdainful.
He turned back to face Coco, the smile still on his face, unmoving.
"My sister's boyfriend said that this bitch flirted with him first."
"Besides, even if it's my sister's boyfriend harassing her, so what?"
He spread his hands, shrugged, and made an innocent face.
"It takes two to tango. Isn't she dressed like that precisely for others to see?"
Coco's chest heaved violently.
Her breathing became rapid, and her eyes burned with anger.
"Watch your mouth!"
The golden retriever laughed out loud, a low, contemptuous laugh.
"What? Did I say something wrong?"
He took half a step forward, his attitude becoming even more arrogant.
"You lot, penniless, homeless, wandering the streets, aren't you just making a living by selling yourselves..."
He didn't finish his sentence.
Chen Mo stepped forward.
He took a step forward, shielding Coco behind him. His voice wasn't loud, but every word struck the ground like a nail.
"I don't want to repeat myself. Release the person and get out of here now."
The golden retriever paused for a moment.
He tilted his head, squinted, and looked Chen Mo up and down, as if it were the first time he was looking at him properly.
Then he laughed.
First came a short "Ha," then a second, a third, and finally, he laughed so hard he was doubled over, tears welling up in his eyes.
The four men behind him also laughed, their laughter echoing across the open space like a flock of noisy crows.
"Brothers, did you hear that?"
The blond man pointed at Chen Mo with the finger he was holding a cigarette in, laughing so hard his shoulders were shaking.
"This guy told us to get lost."
A thug in a black vest took two steps forward, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and squinted at Chen Mo.
"Dude, who does this idiot think he is? A savior?"
Another thug with a buzz cut spat on the ground and grinned crookedly.
"He's just a man with five young girls, and he dares to act like a big shot?"
The golden retriever stopped laughing, put the cigarette back in its mouth, took a deep drag, and exhaled the smoke from its nostrils, which then dissipated in the morning light.
He walked up to Chen Mo, less than a step away, and looked up.
Because he was half a head shorter than Chen Mo, he had to look up.
But he still stared at Chen Mo's eyes with a defiant look.
Do you know who I am?
The golden retriever lowered its voice, carrying a self-righteous sense of intimidation.
"This area is under my protection. Who do you think you are?"
Coco stood behind Chen Mo, her fingers tightly gripping the hem of his clothes, extremely nervous.
Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat, and regret washed over her like a tidal wave.
She shouldn't have been so reckless.
Hearing on the phone that her friend was being blocked, she impulsively rushed over without considering how many people were on the other side.
Now I can see clearly that there are five men, all thugs in their early twenties, each one skinny but with a fierce look.
They only had Chen Mo as a man.
What if Chen Mo gets injured?
What if those thugs pull a knife on Chen Mo?
Coco's lips were trembling, her eyes were red, and she was cursing herself over and over in her heart.
She's the one who got Mo involved in this.
If anything happens to Chen Mo, she will never forgive herself for the rest of her life.
Xiao Rou stood slightly behind Chen Mo, her hand already discreetly slipped into her coat pocket, her fingertips touching the cold screen of her phone.
She didn't unlock it and didn't dare look down, afraid of being discovered.
But her finger was already on the side button, ready to press it five times in a row if things went wrong.
That was a method she'd heard about when she used to hang out on the streets—an emergency call that could be made without unlocking the phone.
Her breathing became light and rapid, her eyes were fixed on the golden retriever's every move, and her other hand unconsciously clenched the hem of her clothes.
The deer stood at the very edge, its legs slightly apart, its center of gravity low, as if it were ready to pounce at any moment.
Her usual cheerful demeanor was gone; her lips were pressed into a thin line, and her chin was clenched tightly.
Sister Nan had her hands in her jeans pockets, but her fingers were already clenched into fists, ready to strike at any moment.
Sweetie stood at the very back, her round eyes filled with fear.
But she didn't back down. She simply wrapped the canvas bag strap around her wrist twice, as if she were ready to hit someone with the bag at any moment.
The golden retriever didn't notice any of this.
His entire attention was on Chen Mo.
He took another half step forward, almost touching Chen Mo's chest, and the smoke he exhaled hit Chen Mo's chin.
"I advise you to mind your own business and take your little sisters and leave."
He reached out, spread his fingers, and tried to slap Chen Mo's cheek, a frivolous and insulting gesture.
"Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite—"
The word "anger" was not uttered yet.
Chen Mo made a move!
