Chapter 500 Are you following me?
Chapter 500 Are you following me?
It was getting late due to the delay.
Xu Fangye's brows furrowed again as he glanced at his watch. "It's almost twelve o'clock. Shouldn't you be eating?"
What does "should" mean?
Fang Li was unaware that in Xu Fangye's heart, she, as a pregnant woman, was already a top-level protected animal—she couldn't be touched, couldn't be frozen, and certainly couldn't be hungry.
Otherwise, countless people would probably make trouble for him.
Especially since he made a promise before going out today, if Fang Li gets hungry after coming out with him, he'll be in big trouble when they get home.
"Let's go, I'll take you to eat wontons."
As he spoke, he walked toward the wonton shop, his pace quickening compared to before.
Fang Li followed behind and saw him take out his phone to send a message to Ye Ran. The screen brightness reflected the nonchalance in his eyes.
It was probably just some polite "be careful on the road" or something similar. Her brother was always very stingy with words of advice to those he truly cared about.
As more and more people gathered at the street corner, people buying New Year's goods carried red paper with gold "Fu" characters on their backs, while children held them up and weaved through the crowd.
Fang Li followed behind Xu Fangye, looking around curiously.
No one noticed that a figure had been following the two of them at a distance from time to time.
Just as the two were about to head over to the wonton shop, a crowd suddenly appeared around them, and Fang Li was jostled by a boy who was about half a year old.
Her lower back bumped into someone else's shopping bag, and she almost instinctively arched her back, clutching her lower abdomen tightly with her hands.
The movement was so fast it was like a flash of light, and even Xu Fangye didn't react immediately, but it didn't escape the eyes deep in the alley.
In a corner unnoticed by anyone, Song Yuchen huddled in the shadows of a candied hawthorn stall, his hat pulled low and his scarf pulled high, revealing only his eyes.
He watched Fang Li protect her stomach, her knuckles turning white from gripping so tightly, and the silver watch on her wrist digging into his chest with pain.
No wonder she went to the hospital today!
So, she went to the hospital for a checkup?
She...she's pregnant?!
Song Yuchen suddenly raised his hand and gripped the watch on his wrist, his eyes filled with a frantic surge of shock and resentment.
She put this watch on his finger that summer right after graduation, standing on tiptoe as she did so, saying, "Song Yuchen, we're here..."
The cicadas' chirping swallowed his words, but he remembered them clearly.
She said, "Let's be together."
Thinking of this, Song Yuchen gritted his teeth, ripped the watch off his wrist, took out an envelope from his pocket, stuffed the watch inside, and stopped a passing flower girl.
"Please give this to the lady in the black down jacket."
"what?"
Meeting the flower girl's questioning gaze, Song Yuchen quickly lowered his head to cover up his misunderstanding, saying, "After giving it to her, tell her that someone is waiting for her in the back alley and that she must go there."
He slipped two hundred-yuan bills into her hand, but his gaze never left Fang Li in the distance.
The girl hesitated at first, but when she saw the two red banknotes, she immediately accepted them.
After settling her in a less crowded area, Xu Fangye went to queue up to sell wontons.
Fang Li was taking out her phone to scroll through online comments and criticisms of Song Yuchen when a pair of brown deerskin boots suddenly came into view.
"Hello, is this Ms. Xu?"
Fang Li looked up at the completely unfamiliar girl. "Who are you?"
The flower girl handed her the envelope: "Someone asked me to give this to you. He said he's waiting for you in the back alley."
Back alley?
Fang Li took the envelope, glanced at the narrow alleyway in the distance, and her heart skipped a beat.
The kraft paper has a rough texture, and the contents inside are hard and uneven, exuding a familiar weight.
With a puzzled look, she opened the box and gasped. It was the watch she had bought after working part-time for over two months. The dial was broken, with a thin, spiderweb-like crack on it.
Fang Li immediately realized who the messenger was.
She suddenly looked up and around, but all she saw were countless heads; she couldn't see anything else.
Just then, her phone vibrated in her bag. She took it out and saw that it was an unknown number.
Fang Li gripped the phone tightly, hesitated for only a moment before quickly answering. Soon, she heard very low breathing coming from the other end, mixed with the sound of the wind, as if it were drifting from a very far place.
"Don't bother looking, just come to the alley behind the old street and you'll find me there."
Song Yuchen's voice.
Fang Li gripped the watch tightly, her fingertips tracing the cool case.
She glanced around; the crowd was bustling, but she still couldn't see where Song Yuchen was standing when he made the call.
Fang Li's heart skipped a beat.
So, her feeling that someone was following her at the hospital today wasn't just her imagination?
A cold wind whipped snowflakes against her face. Suddenly, she curled her lips into a cold smile and said into the phone, "You were following me?"
"I want to see you."
Fang Li's expression turned cold. "I won't come."
"Really? You'll regret this!"
After hanging up the phone, Fang Li gripped it tightly in her hand.
All she could think about was Song Yuchen's menacing words over the phone: "Don't regret this."
After a long while, Fang Li suddenly turned around and gestured with her chin to Xu Fangye, who had just come out with a bowl of wontons: "Brother, I'm going to the restroom, I'll be right back."
"Restroom? I think there's one in the store."
Fang Li smiled and left, "There are fewer people in the back alley; you have to queue here."
Xu Fangye was skeptical. He glanced back at the crowded wonton shop and saw that there were only a few people at the restroom entrance. Just as he was about to say something, he looked again and saw that Fang Li had already left.
She turned and walked towards the end of the alley, her steps slightly faster than usual.
The wind lifted her scarf, revealing half of her taut jawline. Xu Fangye watched from behind, a strange feeling creeping into his heart.
The back alley of the old street is an old alley lined with residential areas on both sides.
The alley was short and narrow, with dilapidated and old residential buildings on both sides, damp and moldy, and cluttered with all sorts of miscellaneous items.
Fang Li walked to the alley entrance but did not go in.
She glanced around and quickly slipped into the convenience store next door.
I picked out a large scarf, a hat, and gloves to fully cover myself before paying and leaving.
Fang Li hid in the corner of the porch of a house at the entrance of the alley, quietly watching the alleyway.
Not long after, a figure walked in from the other end of the alley.
The other person was very tall, wearing a black hoodie and a black baseball cap, with a scarf covering half of his face, looking around curiously.
Fang Li recognized him immediately – it was Song Yuchen!
Watching Song Yuchen walk to the middle of the alley, then stop, his gaze fixed intently in her direction, he waited confidently for her to arrive.
Fang Li paused for a moment, then took out her phone and called Wen Yang.
"Are you still in contact with the paparazzi and influential figures in Haicheng?"
Wen Yang was at work when she was startled: "What are you going to do?"
“Send them an anonymous message saying that Song Yuchen is in the back alley of the old street, and they should come quickly if they want the first-hand news.”
Wen Yang was taken aback. "Pear, where are you?"
Her worry practically leaped out of the receiver, "I'm telling you, don't do anything reckless. Song Yuchen is a rat in the street now. Don't push him too far, or he might do something desperate!"
