Chapter 106 A Bizarre Murder Case
Chapter 106 A Bizarre Murder Case
After Xiao Yue returned to the yamen, the prefectural magistrate stepped forward to report that two murder cases had been reported that day.
Both victims died after their hearts were removed. Both were young men. The coroner has arrived at the scene to perform autopsies, and the results are not yet available.
Xiao Yue looked at the Prefectural Magistrate and asked, "Has the crime scene been investigated? Are there any records? Have any important discoveries been made?"
The prefectural magistrate explained the details of the on-site investigation to Xiao Yue in detail, and now they are just waiting for the coroner's results.
After listening to the description, he glanced at the sky outside. It was still early, so he decided to go to the scene himself.
After leaving the government office, he, Lan Yu, Lan Feng, and another constable rushed to the crime scene without stopping.
The head constable informed them that the two crime scenes were quite far apart, so they went to the coroner's location first.
They quickly arrived at one of the crime scenes on horseback, where the coroner had already completed his examination.
When he saw Xiao Yue approaching, he quickly went up to him and handed him the results of his analysis, then explained them to him in detail.
"Your Highness, this person died at midnight the night before last. Because he lived alone, his neighbor discovered his body in his home today and reported it to the yamen."
"When he was found, the man was lying naked on the bed with his eyes wide open, pupils constricted, and mouth agape. He died in a state of terror, having been having sex before his death."
"Aside from the fatal wound to the heart, no other wounds were found on the deceased's body, and there were no signs of struggle on his hands or feet."
"No knife or sword marks were found on the wound in the chest. The method of the crime was extremely strange, and the wound was full of tear marks."
"It's like having a hand stick straight in and then prying open the surrounding flesh to rip out your heart."
"The other crime scene was exactly the same as the one here, with no difference whatsoever. The victims were all young men, and the places where they died were all the same: their hearts were ripped out during sexual intercourse."
"The other person died at midnight last night and was not discovered by their family until noon."
As Xiao Yue listened to the coroner's account, he walked toward the room where the crime occurred.
The room wasn't in a good location; even in daylight, it wasn't well-lit, and dim candlelight illuminated the room.
The room was simply furnished with a somewhat old table with a few books, a teapot, and several cups, one of which still contained half a cup of water. A yellowed landscape painting hung on the wall.
A few dark-colored clothes were hanging in a dilapidated wardrobe. The bed was in a mess, with a pool of blood. Disheveled clothes, all men's, were scattered on the floor.
He looked around the room but didn't get any useful information, so he pushed open the dilapidated window to take another look.
The window sash opens inwards and is old; half of it is ajar, while the other half is stuck and cannot be opened. If it is forcibly opened, it will be completely ruined.
A layer of dust had accumulated on the outside of the windowsill, indicating that the deceased did not clean this area before his death.
Pushing open half of the window, you see a narrow alleyway with eaves, barely wide enough for one person to pass through. Opposite is the wall of the neighbor's house, and the light is blocked by the opposite wall, which is why the room is dim.
Since there was no wall around his house, his windows had sturdy wooden bars. He examined them carefully and found no signs of them being pried open.
He glanced down and saw two faint cat paw prints on the dusty windowsill outside, but he didn't pay them any mind.
It's normal for stray cats to come and go in the alley, and after finding nothing else, he closed that half of the window.
Later, I went with the coroner to examine the deceased's body.
The police went to inquire in the surrounding area, and the neighbors all said that they did not hear any noise that night, nor did they hear a single cry for help.
Xiao Yue found the whole thing very strange. The deceased's mouth was wide open, but the neighbors didn't hear any cries for help. The surrounding houses were very close together, so if someone had cried for help, they would have heard it.
The coroner also stated that there were no signs of poisoning in the deceased's body, and that the deceased had not inhaled any sedatives before death.
Was it a fatal blow? Based on the current results of the two cases, could the killer be a woman?
With no murder weapon found and no witnesses, the case has made no progress, and he is even more worried that the murderer will continue to commit crimes.
When he returned to the government office from the two crime scenes, it was almost 7 PM.
The pharmacy
As the hour of You (5-7 PM) passed, Xiao Han arrived at the pharmacy carrying a food box, just as he always did.
The pharmacy wasn't busy at the moment, so Long Chuqing followed him directly to the backyard.
Today there are three dishes, two meat dishes and one vegetable dish, and the portions are quite generous.
During the meal, Long Chuqing noticed that he barely touched his chopsticks, whereas he usually ate with great relish.
Today, however, she ate like a little girl, picking up several grains of rice with each bite.
"What's wrong? Don't you have an appetite? I think these dishes are all quite delicious," she asked curiously while eating.
Upon hearing her question, Xiao Han stopped picking up food and carefully considered his words.
"No, I ate too much at noon and I don't have much of an appetite now. You should eat more."
Long Chuqing was a little suspicious. While chewing the food in her mouth, she stared at his face and carefully examined him.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Xiao Han felt a little uncomfortable being stared at like that. "Is there something on my face?"
She looked away, picked up a piece of meat and put it in her mouth, then said casually, "It's nothing, I just thought you were pretty."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Han raised his eyebrows and smiled gently.
He ate only a little before putting down his chopsticks and sitting opposite her, watching her eat, his deep eyes reflecting her beautiful face.
Long Chuqing ate quite a lot, mainly because the food suited her taste and was very appetizing.
After she finished eating, she put down her chopsticks, looked at Xiao Han and said, "Come sit over here."
Xiao Han was taken aback for a moment, then stood up and obediently walked to the stool next to her and sat down.
After he sat down, Long Chuqing took his hand, rolled up his sleeve, and took his pulse, listening carefully for a while.
She glanced at him curiously, thinking to herself, "Oh no... another one who's eaten too much. What kind of delicious food is there in this palace?"
She put down her hand that was taking his pulse, glanced at him helplessly, and said gently, "Your stomach isn't feeling well! Come on... let me give you a few acupuncture needles."
He stood up and walked out.
Since she had seen through him, Xiao Han could only follow her out.
After a while, the needles were removed, and she asked, "Are you feeling better?"
After the acupuncture, Xiao Han felt much more relaxed, and his stomach was no longer bloated or painful.
He thought to himself, "If I had known it would be this effective, I should have come at noon. It made me feel terrible all afternoon."
He smiled and nodded, "Much better, it doesn't hurt anymore."
"I don't see many patients today." Xiao Han glanced into the lobby. "Could you go home early tonight?"
She smiled and said, "Oh, right, I was just about to tell you! You can go back by yourself in a bit! I'm not going back tonight. A little girl injured her head this afternoon, and the situation is quite serious. To prevent her condition from worsening tonight, I need to stay and observe her."
