Chapter 1952 - 513: The Magician at the End of World War II
"Where are we going? Why aren’t we driving?"
Kaka asked.
"According to the map, once out of town it shouldn’t be too far. Driving around here is not easy."
Huang Kaiwen said.
Their destination was an abandoned mineshaft.
Fortunately, they didn’t need to go to Southern Tunisia. If they had to go to the Sahara Desert, Huang Kaiwen would never have let the Young Master tag along.
"Looks like no one is following us anymore, Kevin!"
Half an hour after leaving town, the Young Master suddenly said.
Huang Kaiwen patted his shoulder encouragingly: "You’re doing well, scout."
"How much further do we have to go?"
Inzaghi asked, stumbling slightly.
"How much further? At least another two hours."
Huang Kaiwen said.
"Wow, why didn’t we buy some camels?"
Inzaghi said, "I wouldn’t mind paying for them."
"Good idea, but it’s too late."
Huang Kaiwen said with a smile.
Kaka advised: "Buying camels would draw attention, so just bear with it. If you took better care of yourself usually, you wouldn’t be suffering so much now."
Huang Kaiwen smiled and shook his head.
He simply forgot.
Without Neo, the "Golden Prison Award" could fully ensure their safety.
No more intense car chases, no more gun battles at Roman ruins.
It took the group more than three hours to finally see the abandoned mineshaft.
When the Germans left, they destroyed part of the mineshaft, but it was Ramos who climbed up with mountain equipment and dropped a rope down, allowing the group to enter.
"Uncle Sernio, why are you so strong?"
The Young Master asked in amazement.
This trip, aside from Huang Kaiwen and the military-born Neo, Ramos was the one who surprised him the most.
"When you decide to protect something, you become a better version of yourself!"
Ramos said with a smile, putting his arm around the Young Master’s shoulder.
"There are bones here!"
Inzaghi suddenly screamed.
"Stop shouting, it’s likely Tunisian laborers. You don’t think the Germans paid them to work, do you?"
Huang Kaiwen pulled Inzaghi over and said.
"War is damned!"
Inzaghi said, feeling deeply.
"Yes, war is damned."
Huang Kaiwen sighed and said: "But not everyone wants peace. You wish for a quiet life, yet someone always wants to take something from you."
"What can we do?"
Inzaghi asked.
"If only I knew."
Huang Kaiwen said.
Issues between countries are not so easily resolved.
You want to recover your land, yet there are always those stirring up trouble and selling weapons there.
Along the way, they saw more skeletons, and even Inzaghi grew silent.
By noon, the group had a simple meal and continued on their way.
"Damn, it’s rats."
Ramos suddenly moved aside and cursed.
"That’s a good thing. It indicates there’s no harmful gas here, and the mine layer is stable, otherwise they would have run away first."
Huang Kaiwen explained.
This was something he saw on "Approaching Science".
In early mining days, observing rats’ movements allowed miners to judge the state of the mines.
However, as mining technology developed and equipment became more advanced, rats lost their utility and instead became carriers of disease.
"It’s a fork, which way do we go?"
Kaka suddenly stopped and asked.
Huang Kaiwen looked at the two paths ahead, bent down to pick up some stones, and casually tossed one into the right path.
"Duck!"
Huang Kaiwen suddenly said.
A flock of bats flew over their heads.
After dozens of seconds, once the bats had left, Huang Kaiwen pointed to the other path and said: "We’ll take this one. The other leads outside."
"Is there anything you don’t know, Einstein?"
Inzaghi asked with a smile.
He greatly admired the range of abilities Huang Kaiwen had shown.
Huang Kaiwen shrugged and said nothing.
"Will we find the Ark? And if we do, should we give it to the Vatican?"
Kaka asked.
"This isn’t Indiana Jones."
Huang Kaiwen said.
"Indiana Jones" was about the Ark. That Ark could shoot flames and thunder, the Nazis might have wanted to use it as a nuclear weapon, which led America to send Jones, sparking a confrontation.
That movie was essentially a drama opposing Germany, with many unrealistic plot points.
The script was inspired by Lucas’s dog named Smith. After "Star Wars", fearing poor box office sales, he went to Hawaii to lay low.
It coincided that Spielberg went too. Spielberg wanted to make a Bond-style film, and Lucas persuaded him to make Indiana Smith, changing the protagonist’s surname from Smith to Jones.
Not long thereafter.
They arrived at the end of the tunnel.
The button on the wall had a futuristic style, matching Germany’s technological level during World War II.
"What does it say?"
Ramos asked.
"Danger, Death, Safety."
Huang Kaiwen read the labels on the button.
"Are we supposed to pick one of three here?"
Kaka asked.
"Looks like it!"
Huang Kaiwen nodded and said.
"Why don’t you guys go back, and I’ll try?
Ramos suggested.
"Wait."
Huang Kaiwen placed a flashlight on his hat and took out a scratch card from his pocket.
"You’re thinking about that at a time like this."
Inzaghi said.
Huang Kaiwen scratched it with a coin and, seeing the picture of the first prize, said: "Looks like I have good luck today, so I’ll go ahead. Everyone step back."
