Chapter 399 - 348: She Has a Special Skill
Chapter 399 - 348: She Has a Special Skill
Ju Mumio glanced at Wu Lue lightly and slowly spoke a few words.
"It’s just that I think your abilities are too weak and I’m afraid you’ll die? Uh... alright, but I still think it’s out of concern."
Wu Lue didn’t think much of the words on the translation software because he couldn’t beat Lu Yubo or Ju Mumio, and he was considered below average in combat power on Celestial Horse Island. But Lu Yubo was very annoyed.
"Damn, little girl, I have to give you a lesson. You got lucky and beat me once, and now you’re all high and mighty!"
Lu Yubo cursed as he drove back the way they came.
Ju Mumio didn’t respond, sitting quietly in the backseat, her sharp eyes staring out the window as the car sped through the intersection. She once again saw someone monitoring them from afar, the same two cars from before, only this time they were parked further away, beyond another intersection!
She didn’t tell Lu Yubo to stop because she knew it was pointless to talk to the people in the car. If the other side backed off, so be it, but if they continued to follow, the unlucky ones wouldn’t be on her side!
"What exactly happened earlier?"
On the highway, the FJ Cruiser and the Senna stopped by the roadside, and Zhang Su saw Lu Yubo and the others get out of the big dog, so he walked up to them and asked.
"We didn’t see anything, Brother Su, you have to ask her..."
Lu Yubo shrugged, pointing at Ju Mumio.
Before Zhang Su could ask, Ju Mumio spoke seriously and sternly at length.
Yi Xiaoling came forward and said, "Brother Zhang, Xiaoju said she saw it very clearly just now. Two cars are watching them, and it’s not the first time. After you asked them to come back, they saw those two cars watching from afar on the way back!"
"Huh?"
Lu Yubo grabbed Ju Mumio’s arm and said, "You saw them again? Why didn’t you mention it at the time?"
"Why bother mentioning it then?" Zhang Su waved his hand and said, "Since I already had you guys come back quickly, it was to prevent you from getting ambushed by the other side!"
Ju Mumio nodded emphatically at Zhang Su’s words, as that was also her thought, so she didn’t bother to say anything.
"Have you seen those cars or people before?"
Zhang Su asked Ju Mumio since only she among the three saw it clearly.
Ju Mumio recalled briefly and shook her head.
"This is strange. Besides us, only Old Meng from Bridge Castle is around here, or perhaps a lone wolf squad like you? No, it’s quite possible they’re from over in the Mountain and Sea District!"
Zhang Su furrowed his brows in analysis.
Chen Hanzhou nodded and said, "Brother Su, I also think it’s quite possible they came from the Mountain and Sea District. Last time when Liu Shijie and those people didn’t return, their camp shouldn’t just ignore it."
"Yes, I think so too."
Zhang Su nodded and looked in the direction where Lu Yubo and the others came back. There was nothing unusual in sight, just as he was about to speak, he frowned and looked at the big dog, grinning as he said, "Damn, if they’re really people from the Mountain and Sea District, it was fine before, but now it’s trouble!"
"Why?"
"Hmm? I get it..."
Lu Yubo asked directly, too lazy to think, while Chen Hanzhou furrowed his brow and pointed at the big dog, saying, "This car belonged to those people from the Mountain and Sea District! I get it. If people from that camp chased us down and saw this car, they’d know we at least took their companion’s car!"
"Damn...what do we do now?"
Wu Lue instantly felt deflated, not liking the feeling of being watched from the shadows.
Lu Yubo shrugged off the concern and said, "They were the ones who started it, beating up Xiaoshu and trying to ransom him. If they dare come and cause trouble, I’ll kill them!"
"That’s right. With those people’s tendencies, if they encounter our companions alone again, they won’t hesitate to repeat the same trick. They’re basically bandits!"
"In any case, if we meet them later, grab them first! Don’t be lenient with strangers. Many people are carrying guns now, understand?"
Zhang Su advised, finally turning to look at Ju Mumio.
Ju Mumio gave a meaningful smile and nodded slowly.
"Brother Zhang, actually, Xiaoju she..."
Yi Xiaoling wanted to say something to Zhang Su, but Ju Mumio quickly cut her off.
"Hmm? Seems like you have a lot of secrets...come on, what’s the deal?"
Ju Mumio made some gestures as she spoke.
Yi Xiaoling translated, "Well... Xiaoju has a special skill. She can dodge handgun bullets to some extent."
If this was said ten or fifteen days ago, people would scoff at it, but after seeing the Cyan Dragon Corps’ Edge Squad Captain Li Zhaohua’s extraordinary reflexes, dodging bullets seemed not so difficult.
Only Lu Yubo had a conflicted look on his face, both disbelieving yet afraid to outright deny it. Slowly he became smarter, knowing to wait for verification before refuting, to avoid getting embarrassed.
Zhang Su thought differently from the others. He could be certain that what Yi Xiaoling wanted to say wasn’t just about dodging bullets, even though that was shocking in itself, there must be something even more unexpected that was unsaid!
"Oh? You really have such a skill? Then you’ll have to show it at the camp, rest assured, we’ll make sure you’re well-protected when you demonstrate, no problem, right?"
Ju Mumio seemed to have anticipated this outcome, and she nodded with an easygoing smile, agreeing.
"Let’s go, we can’t just wait here for those people. Maybe they have no intention of finding us and are just wandering around the town. If they really chase us, we’ll deal with it then!"
Zhang Su waved his hand and called everyone to get in the car.
After leading the zombie horde away, no more accidents occurred. The road was clear, and the three vehicles quickly reached the turnoff leading to Kuanzhuang. Since Zhang Su wasn’t sure about the intentions of those two cars in Qing County, he didn’t let the others return to Celestial Horse Island first but drove towards Kuanzhuang together.
The three vehicles entered Kuanzhuang, the tires crunching over the gravel with a faint creak.
This village, which still had life two days ago, now appeared exceptionally tranquil under the twilight glow, as if everything had been frozen in time after the people left.
"Over there, the one with the pink hat, that’s my home!"
Su Xiaoya pointed the way, and soon the car stopped at the small courtyard gate.
There was no way to compare it to the courtyard where Ju Mumio and Yi Xiaoling resided; the place Su Xiaoya had lived before was dilapidated and simple. The low clay wall was barely a person high, missing bricks here and there, looking as if a gust of wind could blow it over.
The house was just two earthen rooms, with broken glass patched with plastic bags, and the window frames somewhat decayed, making it look desolate.
"I remember Su Lei had good conditions, your home is so poor?"
As everyone got out of the car, Zhang Su looked at the dilapidated wall with some confusion.
Su Xiaoya took a deep breath, her eyes wandering over every corner, filled with memories of her and her sister. Hearing Zhang Su’s question, she said with an air of loss, "This isn’t our original home, it’s the house Lei Youliang assigned to my sister and me."
According to Su Xiaoya’s explanation, their original home was located at the other end of the village. Due to the need to consolidate the living area after the disaster erupted, everyone was moved to this area. She and Su Lei were given this set of ancient bricks.
"Tch, that bastard has no conscience, giving you two sisters this dump to live in? Where does he live himself? Hey, damn..."
Lu Yubo kicked the clay wall, and a small section collapsed, almost causing him to topple over.
Rumble...
Looking at the fallen red bricks, Zhang Su and the others cast an exasperated look at Lu Yubo.
"Sorry about that..."
Lu Yubo awkwardly picked up a few bricks and placed them back on the clay wall, smiling sheepishly.
Su Xiaoya pursed her lips and pointed to a new house not far away that was taller than the earthen house, saying, "That’s Lei Youliang’s house. The village head built it for him as a wedding house."
Everyone looked in the direction she pointed. A house with white tiles sat quietly within a solid fence, decorated with auspicious stone carvings, looking quite proper.
"The village seems safe. We didn’t see any zombies. You can go in by yourself, and we’ll look around. If there’s danger, just shout; we’ll hear you."
Zhang Su patted Su Xiaoya’s shoulder.
"Aren’t you coming in with me?"
Su Xiaoya pointed at the house.
Zhang Su didn’t speak, silently lighting three cigarettes, raising them above his head, watching the smoke rise straight up with no wind, and said slowly while looking towards Qing County.
"Su Lei, you know I don’t believe in gods or ghosts. Perhaps you can hear me. Whatever happened in the past, whether you let go or not, it will pass! I hope you can see that Su Xiaoya is still alive, go on your way, don’t worry about your sister!"
After speaking, Zhang Su inserted the three cigarettes into the cracks in the clay wall.
"Alright!" Zhang Su clapped his hands, turned to Su Xiaoya, and said, "It’s like we’ve paid our respects to Su Lei. Go inside and pack up, we’ll first check out Lei Youliang’s house!"
