Chapter 19 Entering the camp

Chapter 19 Entering the camp

Zhao Kongcheng escorted Li Jie and the other person to a post not far from the front of the training camp.

He could not get any closer because the entire training camp was under heavy military defense.

If we drive any further, a sniper hiding in the shadows might just open fire.

And so, Li Jie and Lin Qiye, each carrying a cartoon suitcase, slowly walked toward the checkpoint.

"Military restricted area ahead. Keep out! Stop! Who are you?"

As they approached the checkpoint.

A strong, resonant voice came from above the watchtower.

Li Jie patted Lin Qiye beside him, signaling the latter to answer.

Xiao Qiye cleared his throat and said loudly.

"We're here for the training camp!"

Training camp? They're here so early?

"Wait a minute!"

The soldier on guard said something on the walkie-talkie, and a moment later a pickup truck with military camouflage paint drove out of the checkpoint.

A stylish drift brought the car to a stop in front of the two men. As the window rolled down, a crew-cut officer leaned out and asked them a question.

"Here for training? Can I see your ID?"

Li Jie and Lin Qiye handed the documents that Chen Muye had prepared to the crew-cut officer. After checking them over and finding nothing amiss, he smiled and invited the two to get into the car.

"Come on up, little guys, you two are really enthusiastic, you're the first batch of new recruits to arrive here."

After Li Jie sat down in the back seat, he spoke calmly.

“We are from Cangnan, so we arrived relatively early.”

The officer nodded in deep agreement.

"No wonder."

Soon after, the pickup truck drove into the training camp.

After passing through the first checkpoint gate, the pickup truck stopped at the iron gate of the entrance to the camp.

"Alright, we've arrived. Good luck!"

After getting off the car, the two stood outside the iron gate carrying their suitcases.

Lin Qiye stared blankly at the towering walls, the dense barbed wire fence, and the 360-degree surveillance cameras, and asked in a low voice.

"Old Li, are we sure we're here to join the army? Something feels off about this place..."

Hearing Lin Qiye address him in that way, Li Jie gave him a flick on the head in displeasure.

"Why call me Old Li? It makes me sound like I'm a lot older. If you really don't want to call me by my name, just call me Brother."

Lin Qiye rubbed his throbbing head. "You still haven't answered my question."

Li Jie glanced at the loose iron gate.

"I think someone will answer your question for me."

The iron gate slowly opened, and a drill instructor in a crisp military uniform and with a robust build walked out from behind it.

He calmly watched Li Jie and the other person.

"Are you here for training? Please state your name and organization."

Li Jie and his companion exchanged a glance and spoke one after the other.

"Li Jie, a reserve member of the Night Watch Team 136 stationed in Cangnan City."

"Lin Qiye, a reserve member of the Night Watch 136th Squad stationed in Cangnan City."

Upon hearing the two introduce themselves, a glint of light suddenly flashed in the usually impassive eyes of the instructor who had come to register them.

Are these the two geniuses who came from the strange place of Cangnan, as mentioned above?

One is the owner of the unknown forbidden ruins, and the other is the divine agent of Michael, the King of the 003rd Divine Angels.

That sounds pretty intimidating.

But judging from what we've seen so far, there's nothing particularly unique about it.

"My name is Hong Hao, and I am an instructor for this year's new recruit training."

"You are the first batch of new recruits to enter the camp. I happen to have nothing to do, so I'll show you around as a little perk for the newcomers."

After saying that, Instructor Hong turned and walked into the camp.

He would explain each building as he passed by.

"That's the training ground. Most of your physical training this year will be done there. Also, this is the canteen, classrooms, and supply station. And further on, that's the shooting range."

When they arrived at a dense cluster of buildings, Instructor Hong stopped.

"This is the dormitory area. All rooms are double rooms. You're the first ones here, so feel free to choose whichever you like. Once you're settled in, just tell me your room number so I can register."

But a meaningful smile suddenly appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Geniuses? I wonder if they'll be able to figure out the head instructor's plan...

For some reason, ever since Li Jie entered the camp, he always felt that someone was watching them. This feeling was vague and hard to explain.

When Instructor Hong told them to choose their own rooms, that aura emanated again from the surrounding watchtowers.

Li Jie glanced around discreetly.

Is this a show of force...?

Just as Lin Qiye was about to walk forward, Li Jie grabbed him. At the same time, a rubber bullet came from above the watchtower and hit the ground just as Lin Qiye was about to walk.

As he watched the dust kicked up by the bullets, the golden light in Lin Qiye's eyes intensified.

"There's a sniper in the watchtower... Looks like it really is a prison!"

"Brother Li, get him!"

After saying that, Lin Qiye covered his head with his hands and squatted down abruptly.

Instructor Hong looked at the crouching God's Agent with a questioning expression. Was he really that weak? He was scared by just one rubber bullet?

Soon, his doubts turned into shock.

Li Jie first gave Lin Qiye an annoyed look, thinking, "Can't you be a little more capable? Do you really need me to take action with such petty tricks?"

But seeing Lin Qiye already crouching down with his head in his hands, Li Jie couldn't back down any further; he had to do something about it.

Otherwise, these instructors would really look down on us.

He drew the [Han Guang] sword from his waist, circulated the true energy within his dantian, spun around in place, and casually waved his arm in all directions.

Ding!

A faint metallic clanging sound echoed in front of the building.

Instructor Hong felt the scene before him turn black and white in an instant, but it only lasted for a moment.

He even felt that he might have misread it.

Li Jie tucked the "Han Guang" back into his waistband and pulled up Lin Qiye, who was squatting on the ground.

"Let's go, everything's alright now."

The calm words coming from the white-haired boy in front of him caused Instructor Hong's expression to twitch.

How can you just spin around and then say everything's fine? Is it really that casual...?

These two kids have never experienced the harsh realities of life; they're so naive!

But when the two walked forward side by side...

No more rubber bullets were fired from all directions.

Huh? What's going on? Weren't we supposed to give the first batch of little ones a simple 'welcome ceremony'?

How could they just fire one shot and call it a day? That's far too hasty.

He watched the two men who had already gone upstairs to choose their rooms, and then called out to the sniper on the watchtower over the walkie-talkie.

"What did you guys do? You just fired one shot and that was it? I was waiting to see them cry and scream for their parents."

"Um... Instructor Hong, it's not that we don't want to fire..."

"what happened?"

"You might not believe it, but all our guns are broken..."

"What?!!!"
