Chapter 521 Finale (Final)
Chapter 521 Finale (Final)
Almost the entire Beast City team had been spotted by the birds circling overhead the moment they stepped into the north. The birds swooped down and landed on the shoulders of the patrolling orcs. Tiger Wind affectionately patted the bird's head. "Dumb, what's wrong?"
The little bird chirped and fluttered its wings, then pointed in the distance.
Tiger Wind was a little puzzled. Dai Dai was usually well-behaved and obedient, and rarely acted so agitated.
Hu Wei's expression changed. "Has someone arrived?"
The little bird seemed to understand what he meant, nodding like a chick pecking at rice, but its beady eyes showed no ferocity.
Tiger Might's mind raced. The fact that he remained silent and didn't get angry proved that he recognized those orcs. Could it be that the city lord and the high priest had returned?
Tiger Might grabbed Daidai's wing tightly. "Is it the city lord and the others?"
His words caused a stir among the patrolling beastmen.
Daidai's wings of fate were restrained, and it struggled desperately to break free from his grasp. Hufeng looked at the pitiful little bird and, feeling a pang of sympathy, snatched its companion back from its brother's hands. "Brother, you scared Daidai."
At this moment, Huwei couldn't care less about anything else. He quickly turned around and said to the patrolling beastmen behind him, "Come with me to take a look."
After saying that, he transformed into his beast form and flew off in the direction that Daidai had come from. The patrol team hadn't gone far when, as expected, they ran into the returning Beast City team at the end of the East River.
Tiger Might charged to the front of the procession, then abruptly transformed into beast form and knelt on the ground, his eyes filled with joy. "Lord of the City, High Priest, you've finally returned!"
The patrol of orcs behind them also knelt down on one knee.
Leopard Road was at the head of the group. He raised his hand, signaling the Beast City team to stop for the moment. He quickly stepped forward and helped Tiger Might up. "You guys came pretty fast."
Huwei chuckled, "With birds around, the news is naturally more readily available."
Huwei slapped his forehead and turned to the side. "Let's go back to the city first. The elders don't know that the warriors have returned yet. I need to go and report to them first."
Leopard glanced at the carriage with a somewhat complicated expression, then nodded to Tiger.
After receiving permission, Huwei disappeared in a flash.
Huwei moved very fast, and the procession saw the elders who had been waiting there for a long time as soon as it reached the city gate.
Leopard Road paused for a moment, then led his team slowly toward the city gate.
Tu Lin looked at the returning warriors with excitement, and he grabbed Leopard Road's fur sleeve, "Thank God, they're finally back."
"How are you? Are you all alright?"
Leopard Road paused for a moment, then said, "The army suffered some casualties, but fortunately the outcome was good."
Upon hearing this, the elders all breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."
Tu Lin looked left and right, but couldn't see the child he was most worried about. He craned his neck to look behind him, "Where are your city lord and high priest? Are they in the back? Why aren't they coming over?"
"Yeah, where's Bai Yan?"
In the end, he couldn't escape this problem. He could only blame himself for his bad luck. The city lord was focused on the high priest, so expecting him to come out and explain was simply impossible.
After thinking it over, the brothers decided to draw lots. However, after they finished drawing lots, he was the one who delivered the bad news.
Leopard Road steeled himself and looked at the elders before him. "Elders, the High Priest..."
Seeing his hesitant manner, Tu Lin's heart skipped a beat. "What's wrong with Bai Yan?"
Leopard Road closed his eyes and said, "The High Priest is injured and is still unconscious."
Tu Lin's legs went weak and he almost fell, but Leopard Road caught him just in time.
Tu Lin grabbed his arm with her other hand. "Take me, take me to see him."
Leopard Road quickly reassured him, "Elder, don't worry, the High Priest is only temporarily unconscious and is fine. It's not good for the warriors to be blocking the city gate. Let's go into the city first."
Hu Kuo gripped his cane tightly and said in a deep voice, "Bao Lu is right, let the soldiers enter the city first."
Every time the warriors of Beast City returned home, the first thing to enter the city was always a small wooden box.
The orcs watched in silence as the returning warriors carried boxes in their hands—boxes that held the remains of their former kin.
These boxes will be placed on the hills of the former Cangyan tribe for the tribespeople to remember them.
With her last breath, Tu Lin made sure the departing warriors were properly settled, and then rushed off to Lang Cang and Lin Baiyan's home.
As soon as he arrived there, he saw a large group of beastmen crowding around the house.
Everyone saw him as if he were their savior. "Elder, how could the High Priest be injured?"
"Elder, may we see the High Priest?"
"Waaaaah, I want my High Priest brother..." The beastmen chattered amongst themselves, interspersed with the whimpering of a group of cubs.
Tu Lin raised his hand slightly. "What kind of behavior is it to be huddled together like this?"
"The city lord won't let us in, nor will he let us see the high priest."
Almost as soon as he entered the city, Lang Cang drove the carriage back to his and Lin Baiyan's residence, picked up Lin Baiyan, and closed the door. There has been no news of him since.
While dealing with the deceased warriors, Tu Lin also heard a rough explanation from Bao Lu. With Bai Yan in this state, Lang Cang must be the one who is most heartbroken.
He looked at the door and sighed slightly. Just as he was about to say something, the tightly closed door suddenly opened, and Lang Cang's tall figure stood in the shadows. "The High Priest is just recuperating. You don't need to worry."
"Go back first."
After seeing the city lord appear, the orcs finally breathed a sigh of relief and left with peace of mind.
Tu Lin looked at Lang Cang, whose face was calm, opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
Lang Cang glanced at him indifferently, "Elder, don't worry, Bai Yan will wake up."
Tu Lin sighed deeply, "I know."
Three months later.
On a soft couch beside the window, the orc lay quietly, a ray of sunlight shining through the window onto his fair face, making him appear exceptionally holy.
Wolf Cang lowered his head slightly, carefully wiping the orc's fingers with a fur handkerchief, and chattered to his companion about the current situation in the city.
At some point, Lang Cang stopped moving. He remained silent for a while, then slowly rested his head against the orc's chest, feeling the slow but powerful heartbeat.
Just then, a pair of slender, white hands slowly rose and gently stroked Lang Cang's hair.
The male orc suddenly looked up and met a pair of smiling eyes.
The orc's eyebrows curved slightly as he softly said, "I'm back."
