Chapter 41 Wild Bull Herd
Chapter 41 Wild Bull Herd
The beastmen hung the animal hides coated with purple herbs to dry on the straw ropes stretched out outside the cave.
The young man looked at the row of animal hides hanging in the air and felt a great sense of accomplishment.
That's how it should be, clean and tidy, it makes people feel good.
Lin Baiyan returned to the cave, walked to the corner where he usually slept, and drew a horizontal line on the stone wall with a stone.
There are already four tally marks on his small piece of land. He has been here for twenty-two days. Lin Baiyan draws a mark on the stone every day to keep track of time.
Lang Cang and the others have been gone for ten days. The young man's eyes unconsciously showed a bit of worry. He didn't know how they were doing. Lang Cang had taken more than a dozen male beastmen with him, and even feeding them was a big problem.
However, patrolling the territory is also important, and the young people cannot be prevented from doing so.
There aren't any cell phones or anything here, so sending messages is incredibly difficult.
At this moment, Lin Baiyan missed his smartphone terribly.
I wonder where they are now, and whether they are heading back.
The young man stared intently at the wall with tally marks written on it, when he heard a commotion outside the cave, and the sounds of cubs playing gradually grew louder.
"Oh! The hunting party is back!"
"Our clan leader is back!"
As the young man emerged from the cave, he saw a large white wolf leading the way, charging towards him with imposing grandeur, followed by a string of large animals.
Lin Baiyan's face lit up with joy. He had just been talking about Lang Cang, but he didn't expect them to be back so soon!
The young man quickened his pace, then jogged, heading straight to meet him.
Wolf Cang ran to the cave and suddenly stopped, transforming into human form. He frowned, his expression very serious.
Lin Baiyan keenly sensed Lang Cang's emotions and had a bad feeling.
Could Lang Cang be injured...?
Before the young man could even say a word, he grabbed Lang Cang's arm and turned him around. Only after seeing that there were no wounds on his body did he breathe a sigh of relief.
Seeing the young man's anxious expression, Lang Cang felt a warmth in his heart, as if he knew what the young man was thinking. He patted the young man's hand, "I'm not hurt..."
Lin Baiyan: "What happened?"
Lang Cang looked at Lin Baiyan, but before he could speak, several male beastmen from Huqiu carried a wooden plank forward. On the plank lay Ma Yuan, his face pale and one of his legs strangely bent.
When Hu Qiu and the others saw Lin Baiyan, they looked unusually nervous and tried to avoid him while carrying Ma Yuan.
Upon seeing this, the young man quickly stopped Huqiu, stepped forward to examine Ma Yuan's injured leg, and then turned to Lang Cang with a serious expression, "What happened?"
Lang Cang looked at Lin Baiyan, unsure of his attitude. "When we returned from our patrol, we encountered a small herd of wild bulls. During the hunt, Ma Yuan's leg was broken while trying to kill the bull king." Lang Cang explained the situation in a few words.
In fact, the situation was much more serious than Lang Cang described.
Go back to two days ago.
Wolf Cang and his men circled the territory for a long time but only managed to hunt a dozen or so prey, including a few live Rainbow Phoenix Chickens, which didn't count.
He was about to give up when he encountered this herd of wild bulls. Lang Cang knew that if they let this herd go, it would be very difficult for them to encounter a large group of prey again.
There were over thirty giant bulls there at the time, and they only had a dozen or so beastmen. It was a pipe dream to successfully hunt them, but Lang Cang thought about the young men in the tribe and the simple and honest beastmen, and decided to take a gamble.
If they fail to bring back enough prey, they won't have enough food during the snow season, and the young man will be anxious and worried again.
He told all the male beastmen present about his decision and how dangerous it was. Wolf Cang looked around and said, "If anyone is afraid, they can leave."
Upon hearing Lang Cang's words, Hu Qiu was the first to object, "I won't quit! I am a male orc warrior, hunting is my duty!"
"Orcs never lack the courage to fight!"
A large, simple-minded male orc named Pig Mountain chimed in, "What are you saying, Chieftain? Every time we hunt, it's been dangerous!"
"Does that mean we have to run away every time? What will the sub-beastmen and cubs in the tribe eat?"
His words energized the male beastmen, who were now brimming with enthusiasm. "Yes, we're not afraid!"
We want our prey!
Wolf Cang glanced indifferently at all the male beastmen present and said in a deep voice, "Alright, let's think of a way to capture a few wild bulls and take them back!"
The male beastmen began their intensive plan. Wolf Cang and a few other beastmen secretly transformed into human form and watched the herd of wild bulls drinking and resting not far away.
Huqiu was getting anxious. "Chieftain, what should we do?"
They've been following the herd of wild bulls for a day, and Lang Cang hasn't said what to do.
Taking advantage of the darkness, Lang Cang said in a deep voice, "Don't rush. There is a stone wall not far from the river. Let's lead the herd of wild bulls there. Wild bulls are irritable and easily angered. We'll lure them into crashing into the stone wall themselves."
At that point, the bull's own impact force would be enough to kill it.
This was the best solution he could think of. Their hunting team wasn't very strong, and everyone had gone hungry for a long time and hadn't recovered yet.
Rushing in recklessly would be suicide; look at those bull's sharp horns, they could pierce a beastman's belly and rip him open.
Tiger Hill was aware of their current capabilities, so everyone agreed to this method.
But what no one expected was that the bulls suddenly went berserk for some unknown reason. When they were luring the bull herd, the bull king led a large group of bulls and charged at the beastmen with bloodshot eyes.
The orcs could only try their best to guide the bull herd toward the stone wall, while also having to dodge the bulls' butting attacks from time to time.
Many of the orcs were exhausted. Lang Cang was at the very back, with Ma Yuan, the fastest runner, in front of him. With the stone wall in front of them, Lang Cang braked suddenly and stopped around the stone wall.
The Bull King charged straight towards this spot, but upon seeing the stone wall in front of him, it suddenly turned and ran in another direction. The other bulls didn't have time to stop, and the first five or six of them slammed into the stone wall almost like they were charging. In an instant, a large pool of blood was splattered on the stone wall, and then they stopped breathing.
The stone wall seemed to tremble from the impact of the bull.
The bright red bloodstains seemed to rouse the bulls behind them somewhat, and they glared angrily at the beastmen who had led them there. Led by the bull king, the remaining dozen or so adult bulls charged forward to attack them.
Wolf Howled, signaling the attack, and then charged towards the Bull King in front.
Regardless of what's going on with these bulls, they now have to kill them all!
Upon hearing the signal, the orcs transformed into their beast forms and began to fight.
