Chapter 109 Planting Flowers
Chapter 109 Planting Flowers
Qin Yingxue didn't have to wait long before Bai Haijian returned with the two children.
"Auntie..." The three of them were very happy to see Qin Yingxue and ran over quickly.
He was carrying a wooden bucket, which was half full of small fish and shrimp.
"You went to the beach?" Qin Yingxue was a little surprised; she didn't remember today being a beachcombing day!
"No, my brother just took us to the shallows to pick up some small shrimp, dried them, and ate them with steamed buns," Xiao Haifeng said, drooling.
Yang Weijun, standing to the side, swallowed hard several times.
Qin Yingxue was amused by their greedy expressions, but also felt a pang of sadness.
In the 80s, many people still struggled to meet their basic needs for food and clothing.
However, in 24, many children grew up spoiled, not only tired of eating rich and delicious food, but many college students did not even have the ability to take care of themselves.
After helping them clean the small fish and shrimp, Qin Yingxue also fried them and then stir-fried them with chili peppers until fragrant before plating them.
On the other side, Bai Haijian had already steamed the buns. Seeing the three of them wolfing them down, finishing off a basket of buns and a plate of stir-fried shrimp with chili peppers, he squinted his eyes, patted his belly with a satisfied expression, and let out a contented sigh. Bai Haijian felt a mix of emotions.
"Haijian, are you going out to sea tonight?" Qin Yingxue asked.
"Yes! Boss Hai has a fishing boat going out to sea tonight," Bai Haijian nodded in response.
"The temperature difference is big at night, so bring an extra layer of clothing. Be careful when you're out and about, and take good care of yourself," Qin Yingxue reminded her worriedly.
"I know, Auntie." Bai Haijian said, his face full of emotion.
"Brother Bai is going out to sea tonight, so you stay here with Xiao Haifeng. You two take care of each other at home, and if anything happens, go find the adults in the village." Qin Yingxue stroked Xiao Haifeng's head and gave him some instructions.
"Auntie, I know, I will definitely take good care of Xiao Haifeng." Yang Weijun patted his chest, looking like a little adult.
"You need to take care of yourself too." Qin Yingxue chuckled and gently pinched his forehead.
"Mmm!" Yang Weijun blushed instantly and hid behind Bai Haijian.
Seeing that it was getting late, Qin Yingxue waved goodbye to them.
When they got home, it was only three o'clock in the afternoon. Zhu Huiwen was leading the Wen siblings to turn over the soil and sow vegetable seeds in a wooden box.
"Mom, what dishes should we make at this time of year?" Qin Yingxue asked with a face full of curiosity.
"It's almost the end of August, and I'm planning to plant some scallions, celery, and spinach. I'll start with a small amount and see if they survive," Zhu Huiwen said with a smile.
The soil produced by the mall can naturally grow crops.
But Qin Yingxue naturally couldn't say that out loud, so she could only smile and say, "Mom, you're a master at growing vegetables. No matter what kind of vegetables you grow, you'll never have to worry about them."
Zhu Huiwen smiled and shook her head: "That's at home. I can't predict the weather here, so let's plant them first. By the way, the pork belly stew is almost done. Yingxue, go and try it..."
"Mom, I'm not hungry yet! We'll all eat together for dinner." Qin Yingxue quietly bought some flower seeds from the mall and sowed them in the empty wooden box that hadn't been planted with vegetable seeds yet.
Growing vegetables alone isn't fun; you should try growing some flowers.
She chose very common varieties, chrysanthemums.
Among them, her favorites are "Searching for Plum Blossoms in the Snow," "Ancient Yellow Peony," and "Guohua's Glory."
After planting the chrysanthemums, Qin Yingxue clapped her hands, turned around and saw Wen Tiandong staring at her with wide, unblinking eyes, and her whole body stiffened.
Could it be that he saw what I was doing just now?
Qin Yingxue walked briskly toward Wen Tiandong with a big smile on her face.
Just as they were about to arrive, Wen Tiandong suddenly turned around and ran back into the house, calling out as he ran, "Grandma Song... Grandma Song..."
Qin Yingxue's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
Is this brat afraid of me or does he want to tattle?
"What's wrong?" Zhu Huiwen ran out of the kitchen, probably because Wen Tiandong was calling her urgently, and she was still holding a spatula in her hand.
"Grandma Song, I'm hungry." Wen Tiandong said to Zhu Huiwen while glancing at Qin Yingxue with his eyes.
"Is our Xiaodong hungry? How about Grandma Song cooks another dish and we'll eat?" Zhu Huiwen smiled and patted his head.
Wen Tiandong nodded obediently, but his eyes were always on Qin Yingxue.
Zhu Huiwen was about to go to the kitchen when Wen Tiandong wanted to follow, but Qin Yingxue stopped him.
"Xiaodong, come here, Auntie has some candy. If you're hungry, have a piece to tide you over." Qin Yingxue held a piece of fruit candy in her palm and looked at Wen Tiandong with a smile.
Wen Tiandong swallowed, but shook his head.
Qin Yingxue wouldn't give him a chance to refuse. She strode forward, grabbed his hand, and dragged him into the yard.
Wen Tiandong struggled in fear, his face turning pale.
"Don't be afraid, have some candy." Qin Yingxue tore off the candy wrapper and stuffed the candy into Wen Tiandong's mouth.
Perhaps they tasted the sweetness, or perhaps they knew they couldn't escape it, and quietly ate the candy.
"Xiaodong, what did you just see?" Qin Yingxue asked with a smile.
Wen Tiandong licked the candy, looked at Qin Yingxue, and shook his head.
"You really didn't see anything?" Qin Yingxue continued to probe.
Wen Tiandong continued to shake his head, his face showing a bewildered and innocent expression.
Qin Yingxue sighed inwardly. Such a young child wouldn't tell anyone even if he saw something.
What is she worried about?
"Have some candy!" Qin Yingxue took out two more candies from her pocket and handed them to him, "Give two to your sister."
"Hmm!" Wen Tiandong's eyes lit up, and he grabbed the candy and went to find Wen Tianqing.
Qin Yingxue shook her head with a wry smile.
After having dinner with everyone, Qin Yingxue sat in the courtyard to cool off for a while before going upstairs to rest.
She needs to conserve her energy before heading out to sea at night.
Firstly, she was worried about Bai Haijian, and secondly, she wanted to earn more money while Song Yanchuan was away.
Having barely rested last night, Qin Yingxue fell into a sweet dream before even thinking about Song Yanchuan while lying in bed.
At 11 p.m., Qin Yingxue was woken up by her alarm clock.
Yawning, Qin Yingxue dressed and tiptoed downstairs. After making sure she hadn't disturbed anyone, she then tiptoed outside.
Just as they reached the courtyard gate, a sound suddenly came from Zhu Huiwen's room.
Qin Yingxue was startled and swallowed an invisibility pill almost without thinking.
I saw Zhu Huiwen yawning as she finished using the toilet and then heading upstairs to the second floor.
Qin Yingxue's palms were sweating as she followed her upstairs.
Zhu Huiwen glanced out the window and could vaguely see a blurry figure sleeping on the bed through the white gauze curtain. She yawned again before going downstairs to her room.
Once Qin Yingxue was sure Zhu Huiwen was fast asleep, she finally felt relieved and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, she was clever and bought a doll from the mall and stuffed it under the thin blanket.
But why would my mother-in-law check on me in the middle of the night to see if I'm asleep?
Filled with questions, Qin Yingxue arrived at the seaside.
