Chapter 40 Is it my turn to swagger around?
Granny Shen was trembling with anger. She stepped forward and coldly shouted, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Several maids and old women who were gossiping turned around and saw Granny Shen and Lu Yangyang behind her. They were startled and immediately felt a little guilty. One of the old women muttered, "They didn't say anything, just chatting, chatting."
"Chatting?" Granny Shen stopped in front of the old woman and slapped her hard across the face. "Who gave you the audacity to speak ill of your master behind his back!"
"You, you dare to hit me?" The old woman was stunned for a moment, looking at Shen Mama in disbelief. "I am a person from the Madam's courtyard. Who do you think you are? How dare you hit me?"
The maidservant beside her quickly chimed in, "That's right, we're from the Madam's courtyard, and you're just a nanny from that cousin's courtyard. What right do you have to lay a hand on her?"
"After today, Miss Biao might not even be able to stay in the manor anymore. Who gave you the right to act so arrogantly?"
"How dare you!" Granny Shen looked at them coldly: "I hit you not because you belong to whose courtyard, but because you broke the rules."
"Rules? Did you make the rules?" an old woman said disdainfully.
"Fine, since you don't respect the rules, then come with me to see Madam." Granny Shen gave them a cold look.
Upon hearing this, the group immediately cowered.
They gossiped behind her back, hoping no one would tell the Madam. If things escalated, the Madam, in her current state, might be angered...
The group immediately became trembling and dared not speak.
Lu Yangyang walked over and stood in front of the group. She looked a little fatter than when she first arrived, but she was still thin. However, after changing her clothes and mask, she looked more imposing, especially her eyes, which were clear and sharp, but inexplicably gave people a cold feeling.
"Is it not my place to swagger around?" Lu Yangyang asked.
The group exchanged bewildered glances. One of the maids muttered, "Miss, I advise you to accept your fate. You weren't born into wealth and privilege. Otherwise, why would you waste your good birth and end up suffering in the countryside? You'd only bring bad luck if you came back. This isn't a place for you."
As soon as she said that, the old woman who had been beaten immediately chimed in: "That's right, it's an honor for us to still call you Miss Cousin. You should stop overestimating yourself and go back to your hometown. Maybe you can get some benefits there. Otherwise, if something happens to the madam, it will all be your fault!"
Lu Yangyang laughed, raised her hand and slapped each of them a few times.
None of them saw how Lu Yangyang hit them; they only felt a burning pain on their faces, and then they coughed up a mouthful of blood, along with a tooth that fell out.
"I don't know if it will be my turn to swagger around tomorrow, but today, I'm going to hit you, and you'll have to take it." Lu Yangyang swept her gaze over the swollen faces of the group: "I'm strong and I never hold back when I hit someone, so you'd better not let me hear anyone gossiping again, or I'll knock out the other side of your teeth too."
The group was so frightened that they all knelt down in the blink of an eye.
Lu Yangyang walked past them and said to Granny Shen, "Granny, let's go."
Granny Shen glanced at the group of people who were trembling with fear, then looked at Lu Yangyang's still thin back, and suddenly curled up the corners of her lips. For the first time, she realized that beating people could be such a satisfying thing.
Upon entering the Magnolia Pavilion, it was quiet and peaceful. The doctor and that so-called Fairy of Supreme Kindness must have already left, so the room was eerily quiet.
As soon as Lu Yangyang entered the door, Granny Hui immediately came to greet her, "Miss, you've arrived! Come in quickly. Madam was just saying that she would be happy to know you've come."
Lu Yangyang glanced at her face; she looked somewhat haggard, but Lu Yangyang remained gentle and showed no signs of reservation.
Lu Yangyang followed her into the inner room.
Madam Lan leaned against the headboard, her complexion looking even worse than yesterday, but the moment she saw Lu Yangyang, her eyes lit up. "Yangyang, have you come to see your mother?"
Lu Yangyang stopped a few steps away from the bed, without walking over, but nodded slightly: "Madam."
The light in Lan's eyes dimmed for a moment, but only for a moment. She cheered up again and waved to Lu Yangyang, "Yangyang, come here."
Lu Yangyang walked over, thought for a moment, and then sat down on the footstool by her bed and took her hand.
Facing Madam Lan, she didn't know what to say. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Shall I take your pulse?"
Although her medical skills are not very proficient, she has studied them sporadically for a few years. Yesterday she only gave it a rough examination, but perhaps if she looks more closely today, she can discover something.
Ms. Lan happily handed her her wrist: "Okay."
After Lu Yangyang placed her fingers on her pulse, she said to Granny Hui, "Huixin, go and get the things I prepared for Yangyang, so she can take them back later."
"Yangyang, you've been back for a while now, but you haven't visited your maternal grandfather's house yet. He's mentioned it several times, asking me to take you back. I'm sorry, I haven't been feeling well lately. I'll take you there in a couple of days when I feel better, so you can pay your respects to your grandfather. I know things at home have wronged you. It's okay if you don't want to acknowledge the Sheng family again; your grandfather will definitely like you." Madam Lan looked at Lu Yangyang with gentle eyes. She hadn't had time to look closely yesterday, but now, looking at Lu Yangyang's features, she felt that she looked more and more like herself, and she liked her more and more.
She thought to herself that even if her appearance was damaged, her daughter would still be the most beautiful when dressed up, and after some time, no one could compare.
Lu Yangyang did not reply to Lan Shi's words, but instead carefully felt her pulse.
It was even worse than she had felt yesterday.
This pulse sounds like it's about to burn out.
Even though she wasn't very skilled, she could roughly estimate that given Lan's current physical condition, even with the best medicine, she probably wouldn't survive until the end of the year.
How did that happen?
Even setting aside that dream, when she first entered the manor and saw Madam Lan, although she was sickly, her complexion was still rosy. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes observation, listening, questioning, and palpation. Even though she hadn't felt Madam Lan's pulse at that time, she could tell that Madam Lan's health was far from what it is now.
How could it have turned into this state in just over half a month?
Lu Yangyang couldn't help but frown.
Madam Lan grasped her hand in return, looking at her with some anxiety: "Yangyang, did you hear something? Don't listen to those people's nonsense. I'm fine, really. My health has been a chronic problem for a long time, I know what I'm doing. Please don't believe those absurd words. It's...it's because the manor was worried about my health that they invited the Fairy Maiden Shangshan to come and take a look."
"Does she know medicine? That sorceress?"
