The men who came in carried braised dishes and wine, which they placed on the table. One of them said, "Old Li, we're not here to eat and drink for free. See? We've brought all this wine and food. Tell your wife to cook a few less dishes so we don't waste any."

Li Hongren shook his head and smiled, saying, "Since you've all brought your own drinks, what else can I say? Xiao Wei, just tell your mom and the others to cook a few simple dishes."

Li Wei nodded and smiled, "Okay, Uncle Zhang, you two chat, I'll go out and help."

"Old Zhang, don't just stand there, sit down, you guys sit down too," Li Hongren quickly invited.

Old Zhang and the others nodded and smiled. Old Zhao laughed and said, "Old Li, Old Jia will be here later too. I reckon they're already on their way."

Upon hearing this, Li Hongren shook his head and smiled, saying, "You guys! I just can't do anything with you. It's just a birthday, is it really that big of a deal?"

Old Zhang laughed and said, "Old Li, you're wrong about that. How many people live to be sixty? We know you're worried about what others will say, so we didn't bring any gifts. We just bought some food and drinks so we can all sit together and have a good time."

Chao Bufan and Gu Qinghua couldn't get a word in edgewise, so they wisely watched TV. Chao Bufan had already put out his cigarette when these people came in.

In the courtyard, Li's mother, son, and daughter-in-law were washing vegetables. Seeing Li Wei come out, Li's mother quickly said, "Xiao Wei, aren't you going to chat with your classmate and friend?"

"This kid just said he came here to get your sister to work for him. He said he's arranged a director position for her, and she'll start working there right away. He also said he really likes Wei. How about we give them a push and set them up?"
