Chapter 18 A Meeting That Seems Like We've Met Before
Chapter 18 A Meeting That Seems Like We've Met Before
After the commercials finished, I switched to a historical drama featuring a strong female lead.
The image shows Mu Siran's stunningly beautiful face.
Hua Meimei recalled the news a few days ago that Mu Siran was nominated for Best Actress, which seemed to refer to this TV series.
She picked up her phone and searched, and it really was this TV series; Mu Siran had already won the Best Actress award.
"What are you looking at?" When Grandma Luo saw her staring at her phone, she glanced at it as well.
“This actress is so beautiful.” Hua Meimei pointed at Mu Siran on the screen.
"Her—" Grandma Luo looked back at the TV, "Xiao Ran has been a beauty since she was little."
Xiaoran.
Did their family know Mu Siran?
Hua Meimei noticed that Luo Jiuyu was staring at Mu Siran on the TV, his eyes filled with a deep, soft light, a look she had never seen before.
Could it be that he likes Mu Siran?
The opportunity to get revenge on him has arrived.
"Mu Siran has been a beauty since she was little, no wonder Xiao Jiu was so smitten." She deliberately drew out her words.
Hearing her words, he snapped out of his daze. She actually dared to call him by his nickname! And even mocked him for being so captivated by Mu Siran?
He glared at her. She pretended not to see it and kept smiling while watching TV.
Grandma Luo patted Luo Jiuyu on the shoulder, "Hey, Jiuyu, stop staring at Xiaoran all the time, Meimei is getting jealous."
Jealous...jealous? She's not jealous at all!
Hua Meimei had just picked up some melon seeds from the coffee table to crack them open when she bit her lip in her excitement. Too embarrassed to make a sound, she forced a sigh of pain.
Luo Jiuyu noticed all of this, and he smiled, a smirk playing on his lips. "Serves you right for being so cheeky, huh?"
Grandpa Luo suddenly lectured him in a serious tone, "A man needs to learn to settle down after marriage. No matter how much you liked Xiao Ran before, you have to put it aside and live a good life with Meimei. Hey, you didn't really like Xiao Ran before, did you?"
"No..." Luo Jiuyu sighed, rubbing her forehead.
The old lady blurted out, "Xiao Jiu, no matter how pretty Xiao Ran is, she's still your brother's girlfriend. Don't forget you're frail and infertile. It's already a miracle that Mei Mei doesn't look down on you."
Infertility? He's infertile?
Just as Hua Meimei was about to drink some water, she heard this and choked, unable to swallow properly.
"Cough cough cough..." She coughed so hard she could barely breathe.
Luo Jiuyu raised an eyebrow.
The old lady patted her back and told her to drink slowly.
She paused for a moment before asking, "He wouldn't have married me because he's infertile, would he?"
Luo Jiuyu gritted his teeth, his gaze falling on her face, which was flushed red from coughing.
The atmosphere in the living room became somewhat subtle and awkward.
Grandma Luo realized she had said the wrong thing and quickly gave a dry laugh.
"MeiMei, XiaoJiu definitely wants to spend his life with you. If you can't have children, you can adopt or have IVF. Technology is so advanced now."
Hua Meimei forced a smile. "Grandma, I understand."
She thought to herself, if he really was infertile, wouldn't it be a pity that his naturally good looks would have no one to inherit them?
If a child cannot carry on the family line, they will inevitably be neglected in the family of the richest man.
No wonder people say his father doesn't like him and won't even let him manage a branch company.
His older brother, Lorne, already holds a senior position in the Lorne family business.
Men are most afraid of being told they can't do it. Why is his expression as calm as a bottomless lake?
She knew very little about the Luo family.
Forget it, who cares if he can't have children? He and she will divorce sooner or later anyway, why should she care?
The Luo family is large and has a complex web of relationships, and she doesn't want to get too deeply involved.
We hosted the two elders until 3 p.m., when they finally left Zhenlongtai because they felt tired and went back to the Luo family home to rest.
Berry was also exhausted and utterly worn out.
"Acting is so tiring," she said, lounging on the sofa like Ge You.
Luo Jiuyu stood to the side, looking at her coldly: "Is that so? I think it's a pity you're not an actress."
"Heh, how dare I compete with your goddess Mu Siran for a job?" she said sarcastically.
"Hua Meimei!" He had tolerated her all afternoon. "You don't need to deliberately show off your ability to push your luck."
"Ha, now that the charade is over, can I move out?"
"You're going to stay at the company again?" he asked, his face showing displeasure.
"I'll come back when we need to play husband and wife. Otherwise, I can live wherever I want, and you can do whatever you want. We won't interfere with each other."
He had a serious expression on his face, as if he was considering something.
She added, "If you want to date other beautiful women, I won't make a scene. I know my place in the world."
"Oh, what's your status?" he asked with interest.
"In short, we're secretly married, have no feelings for each other, and each do our own thing. How about we get a divorce after New Year's Day?" She couldn't wait to get a divorce.
The day after tomorrow is New Year's Day.
A new year, a new beginning.
He smiled wryly, "You think I don't want a divorce? My grandparents spent 30 million to buy you, and you're getting a divorce in less than two months. How heartbroken they must be. This is called a failed investment."
"Business people are very meticulous in their calculations," she sighed.
"Isn't your Hua family the same? Selling a daughter for 30 million, that's really not cheap. I bet your dad's company is only worth 100 million now."
"What do you mean by selling? I'm a living, breathing human being, not a commodity."
"Yeah, you're no good."
"you!"
In terms of being sarcastic and unsettling, she lost to him.
"I'm not going to argue with you. Out of sight, out of mind. I'm leaving your house right now."
"Stay here, but don't take your things. If you ever want to stay overnight at the company, just let me know."
"Luo Jiuyu, what exactly do you want?"
What a useless marriage! When will she be set free?
He softened his arrogant tone, "Grandpa and Grandma seem quite satisfied with you. They might even come and surprise you. If you move out, I won't be able to explain it."
"Oh..." she said dejectedly. "If I had known, I wouldn't have needed to act. I should have let them see my true colors."
He glanced at her.
Her phone rang, but she decided to stop arguing with Luo Jiuyu for now.
My phone has been in the room and I haven't touched it since I woke up this morning.
She ran back to her room to answer the phone.
He forgot to close the door, so he lay on the bed resting while listening to the phone.
"Hello."
"Is this Hua?"
A pleasant, calm, and gentle male voice came through the microphone.
Like a clear spring, it instantly soothed her previous agitation.
"Fei Chenfeng?" She recognized his voice; none of the men she knew were this gentle.
"Yes, it's me." This reply had a more magnetic quality to it.
The last syllable still held a hint of barely suppressed joy.
Hua Meimei laughed, "Old classmate, what's up?"
“I added you as a WeChat friend last night, but you didn’t accept, so I’m calling to ask you about it.”
"Oh! I was drunk last night and have been busy all day. I'm so sorry."
She put the phone on speakerphone, then opened WeChat and accepted his friend request.
The two chatted while looking at each other's WeChat Moments.
His WeChat Moments are set to be visible for only three days, and so are hers.
Interestingly, both of their most recent posts on social media were taken yesterday at a sour fish restaurant.
The picture he took was of a large soup bowl with only a few crumbs left.
The accompanying text reads: "We must have met before."
