Chapter 10 The Truth
Chapter 10 The Truth
"So you started playing this game because you wanted to have more things to talk about with your grandson?"
On the lawn, Zhang Yang leaned lazily back in his chair, squinting at the blue sky and white clouds above, and casually asked a question.
"yes……"
Old Jiang sighed.
He was getting on in years and couldn't lean back in his chair like Zhang Yang all the time; he had already sat up straight.
"It's too far away, the entire Pacific Ocean."
"In the early days, there was no internet, and overseas calls were expensive. We might not see them or hear their voices even once every few years."
"It became much more convenient after the internet came along."
"Back then, I remember there was something called ICQ. With that, two people could type and talk to each other on their computers, no matter how far apart they were."
"But ICQ isn't very convenient to use either. All the messages I've said before are gone when I switch computers, and it's all in English, which I, an old man, can't really understand."
"Then I switched to QQ from our own country. Back then, there was a time difference between the two countries, so they wouldn't let me use it anymore."
"And then..."
"My grandson has started school too, and he has more and more homework, so I'm getting busier and busier."
"We have fewer and fewer things to talk about..."
"I didn't understand what he was talking about regarding their situation, and he wasn't very interested in what I was saying about our situation either..."
"What should we do?"
"I can only try my best to find more topics to talk about..."
"The little guy likes playing games. He started playing Fantasy East Journey when he went back to China to visit relatives last year."
"He seemed quite interested, so I thought I'd give it a try too..."
"Then the grandfather and grandson will at least be able to find something to talk about, right?"
"As it turns out, the game worked fine in the country, but it didn't work when he went back there."
"They're either complaining about game lag or saying they keep getting disconnected or something."
"In the end, he gradually stopped playing..."
"This account number was also left behind by him before..."
Listening to the old man rambling on and on, Zhang Yang sat silently beside him, playing the role of a good listener.
He knew that the old man didn't want to hear his advice at this moment.
More often than not, all they need is someone to listen to them.
Besides, this is their family matter, and he can't interfere.
Otherwise, how could you point your finger at someone's son or grandson and say they don't care about the elderly?
At that point, not to mention anything else, the old man himself might jump out and say that he's meddling in other people's business.
He's just a... no, a nursing home director. He listens to the old folks' stories, chats with them, and helps them resolve their inner conflicts.
While you're at it, do some tasks to earn some rewards.
Anything beyond that is beyond his capabilities to handle.
"Hehe, how about it? Now that you've heard the story, are you starting to find this old man rambling on?"
Jiang Lao recounted the whole story of how he went online, and finally looked at Zhang Yang, asking a self-deprecating question.
"How could that be!"
Zhang Yang straightened his back and jumped up from the chair.
He stood there, grinning, and clicked his tongue at Old Jiang: "It's just a bit of a pity..."
"I originally thought there was some special reason why you liked to surf the internet."
"I thought I could at least enjoy some gossip and watch the drama unfold, but I never expected this..."
"Hidden secret? What hidden secret could I possibly have while browsing the internet?"
The old man was also somewhat confused by what he said: "And what do you mean by 'eating melon seeds'?"
"Want some watermelon? How about we arrange for the cafeteria to buy some tomorrow? Now that you mention it, I think I might want some too."
"Haha, that's not what I meant by 'eating melon seeds' (a Chinese idiom for gossiping)."
Zhang Yang was also amused by him. Well, is this what they call the generation gap?
This is completely nonsensical!
"So what do you mean, kid?"
"Eating melon seeds... well, that's just gossip..."
Zhang Yang grinned at the old man and slowly leaned closer: "Me?"
"I thought you were young at heart despite your age..."
"I use QQ because I want to find online friends and maybe even have an online romance. I play those games because I want to find a wife in the game..."
The old man was stunned for a moment, and his mind didn't quite process what he heard.
What the hell?
Online dating on QQ?
Find a wife through gaming?
Who?
I?
Good heavens, how dare you think like that, you little brat!
After piecing together Zhang Yang's words in his mind, the old man's face flushed red.
He's on par with that Martial Saint!
"Get out! Get out! What are you saying, you brat!"
"You little brat, that's what you think of this old man, isn't it!"
"They're still having online dating, even looking for wives in games!"
"Just you wait, I'll teach you a lesson!"
"Hey, hey, hey, you should at least speak up, why are you resorting to violence!"
"Nonsense! If I don't teach you a lesson, you'll never know that the Horse King has three eyes!"
"Ouch! If you hit me again, I'll hit you back!"
"Hey, you dare to fight back? Go ahead and try!"
"You little brat, if you dare give it back, I'll lie down on the ground!"
"Hey! You're going to try and cheat me now, huh? Fine, I'll just stay away from you if I can't handle this!"
"You little brat, stop right there!"
"Hehe, you want to catch me? Come on, if you can catch me... hehehe..."
The old man and the child started chasing each other on the lawn.
The once peaceful and tranquil lawn garden instantly turned into chaos.
In front of the window in the lobby on the first floor of the building, several elderly people who had gathered at the door when Mr. Jiang had his previous episodes stood there, looking at the scene outside the window with different expressions.
"Hehe, this little monkey seems quite interesting."
The old lady in the cheongsam with a full head of silver hair looked at Zhang Yang, who was wandering around outside, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.
His eyes held a look of great interest.
"Hmph, this old Jiang is getting more and more outrageous. He's risking his life for a game."
The square-faced old man who had been standing at the front of the group looked out the window, a hint of dissatisfaction flashing in his eyes, and snorted coldly.
"It's good that everyone is alright, otherwise I might have had to shut down this computer room."
The elderly man in the wheelchair glanced out the window, shook his head, turned the wheel around, and slowly drove out of the house.
"What's so fun about this computer?"
The muscular old man scratched his head in bewilderment: "Old Ren, he sits in front of the computer all day without moving. How can his body possibly stay healthy?"
"You still have to train every day like me!"
As he spoke, he raised his arm and forcefully gestured to his bulging biceps.
The square-faced old man and the old lady in the cheongsam next to him couldn't help but roll their eyes.
Good grief, he's in a wheelchair, yet he lifts barbells every day just like you?
Are you out of your mind?!
……
Let's not even mention how the elderly people in these nursing homes view what happened today.
After Zhang Yang begged and pleaded for forgiveness, he finally managed to get the matter over with...
Even after the old man turned and left with satisfaction, Zhang Yang was still standing there, chuckling to himself.
I just can't help but laugh!
That last bit of playful fighting just now finally added that last bit of goodwill I was missing.
62!
It has officially broken through the 60-point mark.
"Ding~"
"Mission complete, reward being calculated..."
