Chapter 11: The Beginning
Chapter 11: The Beginning
weekend.
Chu Kong arrived at school as usual.
Yulan Middle School is not closed on weekends; students are allowed to go to school freely for club activities or to study in the library.
Some responsible teachers even volunteer to hold open classes on weekends.
There were quite a few people in Class 19, but no teacher was lecturing on stage.
As Chu Kong entered the classroom, he immediately spotted Ning Wantang.
She was huddled together with several girls, whispering about something, her face still beaming with a smile as bright as a sunflower.
Seemingly sensing Chu Kong's gaze, Ning Wantang turned around and met his eyes, her eyes immediately lighting up.
"Chu Kong, you're here too." Ning Wantang jumped up from her seat and hopped over to Chu Kong, as nimble as a rabbit, her toes barely making a sound as she touched the ground.
Chu Kong had anticipated that Ning Wantang would be in the classroom, so he prepared himself mentally in advance, fearing that he might accidentally reveal something was wrong with his emotions.
But when he actually saw the girl skipping and hopping to his side, he couldn't help but feel flustered and quickly forced out a stiff smile.
"Tangtang, you're here too."
"You look terrible, are you alright?" Ning Wantang asked with concern, looking at Chu Kong's face with a puzzled expression.
"I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm a bit tired," Chu Kong made up a flimsy excuse to brush it off.
However, he did not sleep well last night, tossing and turning in bed.
The viewers in the live stream can testify to this.
"Then why aren't you resting at home?" Ning Wantang asked with a reproachful yet concerned expression.
"I feel uncomfortable lying down, so I might as well come out and get some fresh air." Chu Kong finally managed to put on an impeccable smile.
Hearing this, Ning Wantang nodded, but still said with concern, "You still need to take good care of yourself. If you encounter any trouble, you can ask me for help. By the way, I haven't given you my phone number yet."
At this point, Ning Wantang casually tore off a piece of paper, wrote a phone number on it, and handed it to Chu Kong: "Remember to call me, I don't know your number yet."
Chu Kong nodded and accepted the note.
The moment the two fingers meet, the difference in temperature is transmitted again.
"So what are you planning to do next? Study on your own? Or do you have other plans?" Ning Wantang asked.
"I haven't decided yet. Maybe I'll visit some clubs, or maybe I'll go to the library," Chu Kong said, feigning thought as he gave the excuse he had prepared.
This is actually the truth, but only half the truth.
On the one hand, he did want to wander around the campus to see if there was anything he could use in the program.
On the other hand, he wanted to take advantage of the weekend to eat at the cafeteria's cheap subsidized window.
You see, to avoid trouble, he survived all yesterday on that huge, cheap bread.
Only those who have experienced hunger know how tempting a hearty, hot meal can be.
No matter how much the production team arranges things, they wouldn't set up a scene in a place like that on a weekend, would they?
"Eh, visiting clubs? Maybe I should too..."
"Tang—Tang—"
Ning Wantang was interrupted by a voice coming from not far behind her before she could finish speaking.
Chu Kong looked up and saw that it was one of the people from the small group who had just been sitting with Ning Wantang.
She was a girl who didn't seem very energetic, and she was a little shorter than Ning Wantang. Although she wasn't as bright and charming as Ning Wantang, she still had delicate features and was the kind of girl who was pleasing to the eye.
She walked up to Chu Kong looking exhausted and nodded at him.
Then, she whispered something in Ning Wantang's ear.
After listening to what the girl said, Ning Wantang looked conflicted. After thinking for a while, she said to Chu Kong, "I'm sorry, Ranran needs my help with something. I can't go with you to visit the clubs today."
"It's okay, I'm just browsing. If I find a club I like, I'll let you know."
Chu Kong nodded in understanding, but felt a sense of relief.
Ning Wantang forced a smile at Chu Kong and then left the classroom with the girl called Ranran.
Chu Kong also sat down in his seat, preparing to rest for a few minutes.
But just then, Ranran, who had already left, returned to the classroom and went straight to Chu Kong.
"Chu Kong," Ranran spoke first.
"Um, hello..." Chu Kong stammered, unsure of how to address the other person.
"My name is Ji Ran."
"Hello, Ji Ran, what's up?" Chu Kong asked, puzzled.
"Chu Kong, will you make up with Li Lingchuang?" Ji Ran asked a seemingly random question.
This question caught Chu Kong off guard. Looking at Ji Ran's serious expression, Chu Kong instinctively asked, "What do you mean?"
Ji Ran maintained a serious expression for a while, but suddenly, as if she couldn't hold it in any longer, she burst out laughing: "Sorry, sorry, Chu Kong, I was just lost in my own fantasies again."
After saying that, Ji Ran turned around and slowly walked towards the door, muttering to herself as she went, "Hehe, Li Lingchuang seems so tough on the surface, but he's probably the one who's being loved. But Chu Kong looks so delicate, it's really annoying..."
Chu Kong couldn't help but get goosebumps.
"You'll get used to it. Ji Ran has always been a bit neurotic; everyone in the class knows that." The bespectacled boy who had offered his notes to Chu Kong yesterday, sitting in the seat in front of Chu Kong, turned around and spoke to him.
"Ah... thank you, I still don't know how to address you." Chu Kong came back to his senses and asked the boy in the front seat.
"Li Fan." The bespectacled boy extended a hand, looking very formal.
Chu Kong paused for a moment, then shook hands with Li Fan.
"So, what did Ji Ran mean by what she said?" Chu Kong asked, puzzled.
"It doesn't mean anything special. She's a homebody and often says these kinds of nonsensical things." Li Fan pushed up his glasses, and it wasn't hard to hear his disdain for Ji Ran in his words.
Chu Kong nodded, but didn't agree. After exchanging a few more polite words with Li Fan, Chu Kong made an excuse and left the classroom.
There was still some time before lunchtime, so he planned to go and take a look at where the club was located.
