Chapter 156 New Home
Chapter 156 New Home
Nine o'clock in the morning, at the newly renovated house in Kaiyuan Villa.
The key was inserted into the lock and turned. The door opened.
Sunlight streamed in from the balcony, making the floor shine. The walls were a light beige, and the living room felt empty.
An Shiyu went in first, her footsteps echoing in the room.
"The renovation is nice," she said.
Ling Yun followed behind, looking around.
"We need to buy furniture."
"Hmm." An Shiyu took out a small notebook from her bag. "I made a list."
The two stood in the middle of the living room.
An Shiyu reads: "Sofa, TV cabinet, coffee table, dining table, four chairs. Bedroom: bed, wardrobe, dressing table. Study: desk, bookshelf, chair. Kitchen: refrigerator, washing machine, range hood and stove."
"Buy home appliances at Sanlian," Lingyun said. "Go to Dongya Mall for furniture."
"Is it possible to make it today?"
"If one day isn't enough, then two days will do."
They went to the East Asia Furniture City first.
It was a busy weekend, and the sales assistants were helping them with their introductions.
"This sofa is genuine leather, and it's on sale now for 5,800 yuan," the sales assistant said, pointing to the sample.
An Shiyu touched it.
"It's a bit hard."
"This is a new model; it gets soft after sitting on it for a while."
"Let's take another look."
I browsed for over an hour and ordered a few large items.
Sofa: Fabric, light gray, 3200 yuan.
TV cabinet: white, with drawers, 800.
Coffee table: glass top, 400.
Dining table and chairs: solid wood, one table and four chairs, two thousand.
Bed: 1.8 meters by 2 meters, with mattress, 3,500 yuan.
Wardrobe: Sliding door, 2.4 meters high, 2200 yuan.
Desk and bookshelf: one set, 1600 yuan.
The salesperson calculated the total price: "Thirteen thousand seven. Free delivery and installation."
"Can you deliver it today?" Lingyun asked.
"Before 3 PM".
"Okay. Send it to this address."
I paid a deposit and left my address.
Next, we went to Sanlian Home Appliances.
I chose a Haier air conditioner, a single unit, for 6,800 yuan.
I chose a Haier refrigerator, a double-door model, for 3,900 yuan.
I chose a Little Swan washing machine; it's fully automatic and cost 2200 yuan.
We chose a Changhong TV, 29 inches, for 4300 yuan.
I chose the range hood and cooktop from the shop owner; the set cost two thousand.
The sales assistant did the math: "Nineteen thousand."
Are there any discounts?
"Today is our store anniversary, get 500 off for every 10,000 spent."
"Then it'll be 18,500."
Installation included.
"Can I get it installed today?"
"Tomorrow morning."
"it is good."
After making the payment, it was already noon.
The two ate a bowl of noodles at a nearby noodle shop.
"What are we doing this afternoon?" An Shiyu asked.
"Let's go look at the car," Lingyun said.
"car?"
"I'll buy you one," Lingyun said. "It'll be convenient for commuting."
"No need," An Shiyu said. "I'll just take the bus."
"The library isn't close to here, so having a car is convenient." Ling Yun wiped her mouth. "Besides, it'll be useful for grocery shopping and going out in the future."
An Shiyu thought for a moment.
"Then... let's buy a cheaper one."
"It depends."
After dinner, we went to the car market.
In 1997, Jinan's auto city was still small, with several 4S stores next to each other.
I looked at the Santana first. It was black, boxy, and priced at 168,000.
"It's too business-like," An Shiyu said.
I looked at the Jetta again. White, 129,000.
"It's alright, but a bit ordinary."
Upon entering the Volkswagen showroom, a red hatchback was displayed in the middle.
"This is a Golf," the salesperson introduced. "It was recently imported. It has a 1.6-liter engine and an automatic transmission."
An Shiyu walked around the car once.
"It looks pretty good."
"Can I take a test drive?" Lingyun asked.
"Can."
After taking the keys, An Shiyu got into the driver's seat, and Ling Yun sat in the passenger seat.
The car started quietly. We drove out of the car market and circled the nearby roads.
"It's easy to drive," An Shiyu said. "The steering wheel is light, and the accelerator is responsive."
Do you like it?
"I like it. But... how much does it cost?"
The salesperson in the back seat said, "The base price is 218,000 yuan, and the total cost after taxes and fees will be around 240,000 yuan."
An Shiyu's hand trembled slightly.
"Too expensive."
"It's not expensive," Ling Yun said. "This car is of good quality, safe, and fuel-efficient. It should last ten years without any problems."
"But……"
"No buts," Ling Yun said to the salesperson, "This is the one. Red, automatic. Can we pick it up today?"
"We have a car in stock," the salesperson said. "After you complete the paperwork and pay the insurance, you can drive it away before 4 p.m.
"it is good."
Back in the showroom, I signed the contract and swiped my card.
An Shiyu watched Ling Yun sign the document and whispered, "Two hundred and forty thousand."
"It's worth it," Ling Yun said. "If you're happy, then it's worth it."
The paperwork took two hours. During that time, they sat in the lounge drinking tea.
At four o'clock in the afternoon, the car was ready. A red Golf, clean and spotless, was parked at the entrance.
The salesperson handed the keys to Lingyun.
"Mr. Ling, the car is ready. The gas tank is full."
"Thanks."
Ling Yun got into the driver's seat, and An Shiyu sat in the passenger seat.
Drive back to Kaiyuan Mountain Villa.
On the way, An Shiyu kept looking out the window.
"What are you thinking about?" Ling Yun asked.
"I'm thinking... I can sleep in for an extra half hour in the mornings from now on," An Shiyu said with a smile. "I won't have to rush to catch the bus."
"We can also drive around on weekends. Southern mountains, Mount Tai, the seaside."
"Um."
The furniture was delivered as soon as the two got home.
Two installation tool wardrobes.
"It'll be done soon," one of them said. "The sofa's assembled, the bed's assembled, and the coffee table and TV stand's all done."
"Hard."
An Shiyu began unpacking: sofa covers, curtains, sheets, and duvet covers.
Lingyun helped.
After working until 7 p.m., the house finally started to look decent.
The sofa is placed against the wall, and the coffee table is in front of it. The dining table is in the dining room, with four chairs arranged around it. In the bedroom, the bed is made, and the wardrobe stands against the wall.
The kitchen is empty; the appliances will be delivered tomorrow.
The two were so tired that they sat down on the sofa.
"I'm hungry," An Shiyu said.
"Let's eat out?"
"I don't want to move."
"Then we'll order takeout."
In 1997, food delivery was not yet popular. Lingyun called a nearby restaurant, ordered a few dishes, and had them delivered to her home.
While waiting for the food, An Shiyu leaned on Ling Yun's shoulder.
"It feels like home now."
"Um."
"It's just lacking in greenery," An Shiyu said. "I'll buy a few potted plants tomorrow."
"it is good."
"We also need to buy tableware, pots, pans, and bowls."
"Um."
"The curtains need to be changed too; this color is too dark."
"I'll listen to you."
The delivery included: stir-fried shredded potatoes, sweet and sour pork, tomato and egg soup, and two boxes of rice.
The two sat on the floor and ate at the coffee table.
"Like a picnic," An Shiyu laughed.
"We won't need to anymore once we have a dining table."
After we finished eating, it got dark.
"Are you staying here tonight?" An Shiyu asked.
"I'll stay here," Ling Yun said. "The mattress is all made up."
"But we haven't bought a blanket yet."
"It's hot, so you don't need a blanket."
An Shiyu took two coats out of her bag.
"Just make do for one night."
